Re: Brownlow
You wouldn't know StKilda is participating.
I don't think one Saints player has been featured on the red carpet or interviewed.

They're both very polite on the footy field. They don't swear or give the umpires any angry looks

Re: Brownlow
2 Carlton players in the best against our last game? Found that odd.
All I remember is Cripps being caught ball by Jones and him handballing it directly over the line in the last quarter and the umps didn't call deliberate.

Marshall gets the most votes for a ruckman but couldn’t even get in the AA squad.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Brownlow
We beat Swans too round 17 but Swans get the 3 and 1 vote.
Lose to Hawthorn by less than a goal but Hawks get 2 and 3 vote.
Lose to Port by 2 points and Port get 2 and 3 vote.
Other examples too. We didn't score a vote in five games.
We are invisible to the umpires and media (unless there is a bad story to tell).

Re: Brownlow
Brownlow Votes for the ruckmen of the 44 All Australian Squad
Max Gawn 13 votes
Tristan Xerri 1 vote
Dacy Cameron 0 votes
Not in the 44 All-Australian Squad
Rowan Marshall 16 votes
The selectors are manifestly incompetent and need to be replaced.

Re: Brownlow
What an absolute shitshow. Cripps must have been gifted umpteen votes in games that he did next to sweet fa.
Another Brown-nose Medal where St.Kilda is irrelevant. But heck, it has become an increasingly meaningless event and accolade in the last 20 or so years.

Re: Brownlow
I'm OK without the personal accolades.
It's clear we are driving the team first culture. Individual performances are secondary to team performances.
Who would be happy taking 6 brownlow votes and 0 premiership points in a match?

But we selected Billings at pick 3.

Re: Brownlow
It goes to the most popular team with the most popular player. Why hasn't Bontempelli won it?

Re: Brownlow
No argument Cripps is a fantastic player but 45 votes is just ridiculous
Take the St Kilda game (we won!!)
Yes he had an amazing 3rd quarter but in the 4th quarter when the game and their season was on the line
4 disposals (1 kick!!! 3 h/balls) for 38 metres gained.
How on earth does that get you the 3 votes, it should/maybe get you 1 or 2 but not the 3

The elephant in the Brownlow room hasn't been mentioned yet.
J Hayes one vote vs North!
I was at the game and I hardly noticed him.

Re: Brownlow
The AFL needs to conduct a complete review of the way umpires decide who earns the 1-2-3 votes in a game. Things have changed, the speed of the game is now so quick that it requires not just 1 or 2, but 4 field umpires to officiate. The more umpires, the more chances that they don't get it right because presumably they don't discuss amongst themselves who the best players were....
I have long advocated a revised system whereby the four field umpires watch a full replay of their game, if need be the following day, and reach a consensus of who should get the votes.

Re: Brownlow
Yeah, that was odd. I remember Hazy making a good return and kicking a couple of goals, but I don’t think he was even in our best three, let alone best three on the park. Who knows what goes through the umpires’ heads, eh? Although, it seems obvious that if he wears #2 for Carlton they’ll fawn over him and have a circle jerk when it’s time to give the votes.darylcowie wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2024 12:51pm The elephant in the Brownlow room hasn't been mentioned yet.

Re: Brownlow
Clearly there was a "Heeney Factor" at play. That is, after Heeney's supension the umps started piling votes on Cripps and Daicos to make sure there was a clear winner. It's a joke but it's the onlty thing that accounts for the 45 votes.
As for Sharman not getting votes against Essendon, the umps just don't know who he is yet. Audio of an ump calling Will Ashcroft "Marcus" during the prelim is telling.

Just had a look back at the thread, many including me gave him 1 vote (5th) so a brownlow vote is still amazing.King Max wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2024 2:09pmHe got a vote in the Saintsational player of the year so a lot on here noticed him.darylcowie wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2024 12:51pm The elephant in the Brownlow room hasn't been mentioned yet.
