Re: J.Hayes
So it was posted a while ago that he wouldn’t be offered another contract (though it didn’t come from the club so I was dubious)… and he’s survived the first round of cuts.
As far as I know, he’s still not contracted so my gut tells me that as a footballer that seems ready to play now (body not withstanding) and is certainly competitive at the level and IMO very much exactly what the team needs, most likely the club is surveying their options for an upgrade.
Kind of like what happened with Dmac last year… seemingly set to stay then Bonner became available and they opted for what they thought was an upgrade.
We’re likely to target mids for now so his fate will be dependent on whether we lure a low cost, average KPP that someone thinks has similar potential (or less) but is less injury prone.
Likely it be a wait IMO

Re: J.Hayes
I've always thought that either Tim Membrey or Jack Hayes will get another year, not both. If that's correct it depends on whether or not Tim succeeds in getting a better deal to play elsewhere. Also still big question marks over Jack's body given he's missed such a huge number of games through injury.

We’re going to need someone to replace Battle structurally and I wonder whether that could be Hayes or even Membrey.

Re: J.Hayes
I here Ross really likes Camaniti as a KPD or there is also Cordy but if Camaniti goes back Hayes would have to stay you would think as a chop out for King in the forward line, King always play better when there is another big target there.
The other option is play Marshall as a KPF and trade Hayes to Port for Soldo who Rucks some of the time while Marshall is forward.

Re: J.Hayes
The problem with Hayes is he spends too much time in the medical room, they may keep him for 2025 so that a freshly injured player has some
company during recovery.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I doubt he stays if Soldo signs on.
There isn’t room for Hayes, Soldo & Heath IMO.

Re: J.Hayes
Hayes and Clark are in a similar boat, they go at 120% and get injured. Clark has been forced to play at 90% and has been better for it. With a similar adjustment, I think we could get a solid three seasons out of him.

Re: J.Hayes
People really do over state Hayes ability. He has played 8 games of which one was great, one was average to good and the others he was basically invisible. Reading what people are writing you would swear he was a star that has played at a high level for years.
Not wholly surprising I suppose, before he was recruited Dow was a future AA who was simply not given the opportunities, and bringing in Soldo will turn Roma into Plugger.

I agree on your comments on Hayes and the Dow prognosis.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Fri 27 Sep 2024 11:41am People really do over state Hayes ability. Last preseason Dow became Chris Judd on this forum as the explosive breakaway from stoppage midfielder we’ve been screaming for.
I hope he can get to a consistent level, however everything I’ve seen of Dow is D/C grade mid with very average disposal and no elite traits.
If he’s best 22 at Saints I don’t see us playing finals.

Sorry but I don't understand your resining we had Hayes, Heath and Campbell, plus Keeler rucks as well at times on the list for a number of years and it worked fine.
And a lot of other clubs have 3 ruckmen on there lists.

He got Brownlow votes in 2 of those 8 games. His best is very good.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Fri 27 Sep 2024 11:41am People really do over state Hayes ability. Let's not hang our hats on a guy that has had two good games in three years and will be 29 at the start of next season.

Delisting him will only get us a 4th rounder or rookie on the list.
Depending on when our tilt at the flag is, he could be the x factor.

Re: J.Hayes
Hayes will be lucky if he gets another contract. He and a few others will probably be delisted next month when their contracts finish. Probably sometime in October.
They probably have already been told they won’t be renewed.
