It was a situation where you have a coach who is usually coaching from the bench (so he’s already out on the ground) and both teams converged, which usually doesn’t happen. They all went to line up and honour Breust.

Hinkley couldn’t wait to get something off his chest. He wanted to stick it up the little brat Hokhead and it was an opportunity to do it in front of all his Hokhead team mates.

I think the AFL had to impose a fine to send a message to all officials that they need to be careful of their words and actions immediately post match. They need to respect opposition players. Maybe they should look at also fining players who disrespect their opponents after the final siren. That has the potential to turn ugly doesn’t it?

Maybe they could retrospectively fine a scumbag like Matthew Scarlet
Nah I'm leaning more towards 'flog'.

It was premeditated, not a 'heat of the moment' blowup, he calmly walked onto the field and located a specific player so he could mock him (all over a social media comment mind you), then continued to carry on after the fact. Rubbing it in the oppositions face once the game is over is the floggiest of flog behaviour, made even worse by the fact he's a coach.
If one has an intense dislike of Coach Hinkley one should disclose the possible bias. Then the term flog can be assessed rationally and in context.

Didn’t he apologise and admit that he shouldn’t have done it?
After he got in a back and forth with another player on the field, who was in the right to call out the crap behaviour.

I have no feelings either way when it comes to Hinkley, Ginivan or Sicily.

How’s it ‘holier than thou’ to say a coach is a flog for mocking an opposition player on the field straight after a win?

🤷‍♂️

I didn’t think it was overly controversial to have the opinion that taunting your opposition after you beat them is not great behaviour…

lol. Ok.

Gone from being a flog to "it's not great behaviour."

Exactly. It's not great behaviour, but it wasn't that bad in the scheme of things, especially given the circumstances.

The penalty did not fit the crime.

Hinkley should have got off with a warning.

I can't imagine Lyon sooking about it like Mitchell did. It came across as pretty weak, especially after Hawthorn had instigated and provoked the situation in the first place.

The fact that he's a coach and it was all over a harmless social media comment safely upgrades it to 'flog' behaviour IMO.

I think there were multiple flogs ...but only one bloke (or one club) copped the fine. I think Hinkley did the wrong thing by taunting a player after the siren, but the way Sicily behaved and the language he used was also worthy of a fine.

If Sam Mitchell didn't cry in his press conference, maybe the AFL would just have given Hinkley a warning.

If the Hawthorn media mafia of Hodge, Lewis and Brereton didn't sook it up like they did and point the finger, perhaps the AFL wouldn't have fined Hinkley

If all of the Hawthorn players were hotheads like James Sicily or Dermot Brereton there would have been an all in brawl.

Sicily was restrained and told to calm down by his team mates.

When there's a scuffle during play, it's usually the retaliator that gets penalised. Sicily was the retaliator in this instance and he got off scot free.

The only person that reacted in an aggressive manner on the field AFTER the final siren was the Hawthorn captain.
