Please explain
Dear Power, attention Coach Hinkley,
It has come to our attention via some who shall remain nameless e.g. Messers Kennett, Gower, Brereton, Lewis and the PM, that there was not sufficient wailing and gnashing of teeth last evening when the Hawks, sole representative of metropolitan Melbourne, was surprisingly beaten last evening (note: remind me to talk more to the umps about how that was possible). It seems the happy go lucky, brat, breath of fresh air, carefree loveable larrikins that play for Hawthorn had their words of contempt for their opponents thrown back at them in the form of a cruel and humorless jibe. Feelings were hurt.
Accordingly please explain: what can be done to soothe their angst, give the media a punching bag for the week now KH has not fallen on his sword but been successful/proven experts wrong again; what are we to do with a million wizard hats we can't sell now, and how to we attract Melbourne viewers, especially from Toorak and Glenferry to watch the prelim finals. Ginni's manager also wants to know who compensates for there not being a tavern or RSL now offering free final eve drinks for an appearance.
You have a lot to answer for not having a commercially based sense of occasion. Its not like its a game where banter is part and parcel of the cut and thrust.
Mr Kennett and Mr Brereton are particulary miffed so a reply by Monday is needed (could not stand another couple of calls from those tossers).
Yours in even handedness
Laura.

Yeah dangerous tackles that aren't are woke. So are balls half a metre over the boundary line that results in goals are woke. Laura Kane is woke. Time for her to walk off the plank!

Re: Please explain
The definition of "woke" is African/American VE, originally meaning alertness to racial prejudice and discrimination (from 2010, prior to which it was the past tense of "wake" as per the dictionary).
The usage of the term has been high-jacked by the Right Wing of politics for the purposes we see, so a catch all usage for matters their agenda does not countenance and for the purpose of criticism of not only the issue but of those speaking in support of the issue
Despite the focus being on education (a "woke" issue no doubt), it appears that many among us are not well educated.
Media and the political bias of media does not assist.
Then, on an issue such as this, media reporting sees the AFL buy in, the AFL thinking its brand carries currency.

Re: Please explain
Yeah that is the usage that Killa was explaining.
Be/stay woke coming from African American culture as shorthand for being aware of systemic injustices, not just sleepwalking through life without being aware of how the deck might be stacked against you.
Then the term gets hijacked by right wingers to signal to others that they don't have the capacity for empathy (I assume because it couldn't be derogatory for being socially aware, because why would that be a bad thing?)

And luckily she wasn't asked about what her party did to improve the situation or what they did that exacerbated the problem.
Her answer would have been more verbal diarrhoea.

Science is never definitive or concrete, it is always being questioned and revised.
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

Re: Please explain
Saying that science and some branches of science can ‘never’ be definitive is incorrect…Unless of course you prescribe to Terrence Howard’s theories on maths.darylcowie wrote: ↑Mon 16 Sep 2024 5:59pm

Do you mean life sciences like biology and medicine and immunology are “always” revised?
Math is definitive.
Physics (and other physical science like chemistry and astronomy) are based on formulas and complex math.
Most of the formulae used in physics and chemistry are not “always” questioned or revised.

Re: Please explain
The theory and understanding might have changed but has the math changed? No of course it hasn’t

Re: Please explain
Perhaps. Physics isn't just about mathematical formulas though. It's an empirical science that uses math to express theories about the physical world. The math might hold up, but how we apply it to understand reality can change over time. Math is based on logic, not empiricism.
Darryl is talking about the scientific method, which is meant to be falsifiable, so his point is still correct.
You’re both talking about separate issues.
