sad news
it is with great regret and a heavy heart that I must inform everyone of the passing of a fellow forumite and staunch Saints supporter.
Asiu or Gaz who passed away 10 days ago.
Those that knew him personally as I did found him to be a ripper selfless bloke.
Condolences to family.

Re: sad news
I never met Gaz personally, but shared lots of messages with him.
My dad sat next to him at the 2009 GF and said he was a gentleman and a great fella.
Seemed a ripping bloke and a wicked sense of humour.
Vale Gaz, would not have been 70 yet?
Way to young!

Yep. We had our moments, but still, he died too young.

Absolutely gutted at the news and the circumstances. Was the universe's middle finger to those who got too big for their boots, and a true gentleman who was always prepared to step forward and speak for those who could not find their own voice.......

RIP Gazrat aka asiu, Saintsational’s philosopher/poet.

Re: sad news
Awww
I noticed he wasn’t posting lately.
Got to interact with him more as a mod. An intense but quite funny forumite that I thought was very sweet.
I feel deeply saddened and can only wish the best for the family

Re: sad news
Gaz was a special soul. Reached out to me many years ago and we finally met in covid times when i was stuck far from family and alone for a year. We would crash at his sisters lovely place overlooking story bridge after watching the saints at the gabba. He liked going for too bloody long walks, and was a nomadic, restless soul, but we kept in touch ever since, just a caring, welcoming fella who made you feel good. Rest in peace mate, but visit us sometimes - door always open to you.

Re: sad news
Unfortunately, I never got to meet Gaz. Indeed, he came across as a unique individual from his input on this site, and I will miss his contributions a great deal. Amongst many other things, he pointed me towards some great music and bands.
Condolences to all family and friends.
RIP, Gaz.

Re: sad news
Wow!
Reading this thread made me stop and think. Yes, without a even a touch of Trump-esque hyperbole (and certainly with zero disrespect to the other great Saintsationalists who have previously passed-on)... I can truly say that this is the saddest news I've ever read on here.
No way I could write something in tribute to gaz that'd hold a candle to what you others have already written. So I'll just say that I was lucky enough to finally meet gaz last year (the Sons of Beaches debacle game). And I'm so glad that I made that trip. What a great bloke! And what a wonderful, generous and entertaining host! And your vegie juice smoothie receipe gaz... yum!
This is very very sad news for all of gaz's family and friends.
However, this dark cloud has a silver lining. As saynta put it so well... "another saint in heaven".
So hey gaz, now you know that the atheists... were wrong.

Re: sad news
I will miss Asiu's posts too. I'm bound to say I rarely had a clue what he was on about but he raised a smile from me on a regular basis - and you can't beat that. My condolences to his family. RIP.

Re: sad news
Thanks asiu (and Gaz)
You were fearless, generous, honest, open minded and funny.
I am completely shocked, as most of us will be.
We've lost one of the best.
I've been away, but from my own selfish POV, he was one person I wanted to speak to again here and anywhere
And certainly hoped so
Again we are reminded that nothing lasts
Thank you fireman, for passing on the info
I won't forget you Gaz.
Your messages and support were powerful.
Blown away
RIP

I’m very sorry to hear this. Never met him, but he helped me with something years ago via messages.
From that and his posts on here I always had him pegged as a ripping bloke. Vale

Re: sad news
Simply dreadful news. Top drawer bloke. Not so much the forum’s poet as its shaman.
We never managed to meet up in person, although we made various unsuccessful arrangements to do so in various parts of the country. And yet I still considered him to be a friend. I can’t believe we will no longer be able to share news by email about our equally challenging personal lives.
But I sense him still floating around the forum. A very strong spirit that one.

Re: sad news
Very sad news.
He was always quick with the retorts and one liners.
“Mankini muncher” and other classics:
“a cork in the arsehole of human progress”
“the eq of a bottle of beer at an AA meeting”
“'n the communication skills of warwick capper at a
midvale school for the gifted convention”
A unique poster with interesting views.
RIP
