Averages 27ppg over his career
Not sure where Michael Frost come into it?

Re: Jack McCrae
I’m not sure if I’d recruit Jack McCrae - age is a concern
But to down play or disregard his CV is ridiculous
He is more decorated than any player on our list
He’s 30
There are good players in good teams who are 37, 35, 34
Age is just a number
- output is the question

ONLY!...for a team that thinks its in a premiership window over the next 1 to 3 years.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024 7:16pm I’m not sure if I’d recruit Jack McCrae - age is a concern

Clearly we may only be entering such lofty heights for at least 2 to 3 years and then we'd be a top-4-type midfielder short at the point we need one.
Be patient, recruit and develop that player so his age profile aligns with our list profile and projected window.

Re: Jack McCrae
Is this really why St Kilda employ Gubby Allan and Stephen Silvagni?
To swoop on other club's rejects
Save some money and get rid of them both. Employ people that actually do something
I wonder how the next list management meeting will go. Simon Dalrymple will be wondering how he ever got sucked in to coming to St Kilda

Re: Jack McCrae
Sorry to be obtuse.
I refer to :
1. Your listing of Macrae’s stats against us this year;
2. The reply from Jack’s Back at 10.43pm last night ;
3. The reply from Scollop at 3.48am today;
4. Frost’s strong game for the Dogs against us at a very cold and windy Waverley in the 1992 Semi Final ;
5. Our selection of Frost ( no doubt as a reaction to his performance in that game ) in the 1993 draft ( at number 8- behind only Jody Arnol as our worst pick of last millennium ).
Yes of course Macrae’s best was way way better than Frost , but that best is well in the past . The game he played against us this year (just as Frost’s 1992 game ) was an exception and should not be used as the basis for us making a bid .

Re: Jack McCrae
Just a little bit different
1 good game vs us
As opposed to a 12 year career
It was a joke why McCrae was in the twos and Sub
Even Bailey Dale was sub - ridiculous
In the twos McCrae humiliated Beveridge by averaging 42 touches
Beveridge selection and tactics is exactly why the best list in the AFL is now on holidays

Re: Jack McCrae
Pretty sure Bailey is the brand ambassador for Cotton-On, so he'll likely end up at Geelong on very modest coin, and with a farm about 20k from Kardinia Park.
Gosh, it's no wonder Geelong is such a destination club (sarcasm intended).

Jai Newcombe and Lawson Humphries are embarrassing recruiters and list managers trying to improve their midfields with 30 year olds

Re: Jack McCrae
Hugo Garcia
You've been one of Hugo's loudest supporters on here. You're big on giving credit to a young player who does the work, has the talent... and performs when he gets a call up to the seniors
Why would you want Hugo's progress to be stalled...or we potentially lose him to another club... because we bring in a ready made player who will deny Hugo senior games?

Re: Jack McCrae
If we're bringing in Mcrae, why stop there
Why not offer Jake Stringer a 3 year deal? He could be the difference we need to snatch our second flag
Why not target Matt Taberner and Jack Martin too?
Ross and Gubby and SOS are missing a golden opportunity to make a name for themselves.

Re: Jack McCrae
We bring in players that make us better
Talent acquisition
You pull every lever to improve the list
Draft (we must NOT trade early picks 7, 8, 24)
Trade - for any player that improves the list - particularly midfielders
FA - there are none available
We are not North, Rich, WC and bottoming out and playing kids
Hugo will get games if he is playing well enough

Re: Jack McCrae
If we draft mids we need to be realistic that they'll likely run through the vfl at least a bit. Thats really where our older mids can guide them best. But having a 28yr old AA there who is vocal & knows we've brought him on to both add value & mentor for 1-2 yrs would be ideal.Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024 6:55amIt's always that balance isn't it SL, with regards to losing Sebby and Crouch, do you think Ross thinks he didn't really miss them much towards the end of the season when we started playing better, especially when we got Zac back? Do they think they can squeeze another season out of Zac and hope the likes of Pou and Windy are ready to take over full time in the middle? And we also really didn't get a full look at the midfield with Dow helping out either.
My gut feel is we don't need to be desperate and bring in a 30 year old on a 3 year deal.
I'd like to see us be patient and just keep bringing in as many recruits as possible through the drafts to stockpile before Tasmania enters the comp. Even if it means we miss the 8 for a couple more seasons.

Re: Jack McCrae
I don’t think this was poor beveridge tactics. His form warranted his non selection. Harmes and Garcia have gone past him this season and last year McNeil, Baker and Scott were simply more impactful in the middle.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024 8:59pm Just a little bit different

He’s lost the tank to play pure mid and is hopeless as a wing/high fwd (which is now his primary position).

Re: Jack McCrae
If he comes across for more opportunity it should be on the understanding that sides are picked on form and merit … ie, no promises of games.
Plus I tend to baulk a bit at a big contract for a guy who the Bulldogs couldn’t guarantee a game this season.

Re: Jack McCrae
Lots of players have moved clubs for more opportunities and have been successful
Brian Taylor couldn’t get a consistent game at Richmond (behind Roach)
Went to Collingwood and won a Coleman and kicked a ton
It all depends on what stopping them getting a game.

So is/will Cooper Sharman to list managers desperate for big forwards. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Brian Taylor went to Collingwood as a 21 year old, not a 30 year old. That's a huge difference!

Re: Jack McCrae
Dan Hannebery had a severely banged up body when he came to Moorabbin whereas I've not seen any reports that Macrae is in the same boat.
But it's the remaining 3 years on Macrae's current contract that's a huge concern.
I don't think Macrae's addition to the team will necessarily mean St Kilda will all of a sudden become a serious premiership contender in 2025.
Far better to keep the decks cleared to get as many games as possible into Windhager, Wilson, Garcia, Hastie, Henry, Dow, Byrnes through the midfield to support veterans Steele and Jones as well as Sinclair. Then there's the mature age Max Hall who we haven't seen yet, so many options!
Next year Freo's Andrew Brayshaw will be a possible trade target and he is defintely the sort of gun mid the club has been talking about lately.

Macrae is a reject. Very likely the bulldogs will have to pay (by giving up one of their top picks) for the privilege of getting him off their list.
