Re: Battle
They asked Lyon about it at the press conference.
He made a flippant remark and walked off.
Doesn’t sound good.

Re: Battle
The thing that has annoyed me most about this… so often, you hear players say when they move clubs that they want the incumbent to be taken care of during the trade. I know it’s FA but Battle could at least insist that Hawthorn structure the deal so that we get a pick 6 or whatever. Then everyone walks away happy

Re: Battle
Do players say this? I know most don't leave with ill will, but in a trade any resources their new team spends is less available for strengthening that new team. I would imagine players would want to move as cheaply as possible, but the deal has to be good enough for the selling team to accept.skeptic wrote: ↑Sun 25 Aug 2024 10:30pm The thing that has annoyed me most about this… so often, you hear players say when they move clubs that they want the incumbent to be taken care of during the trade. As far as I was aware the compo calculation was pretty opaque so I don't think we can know 100% what it might look like, only make educated guesses. I wouldn't think there is a way for the Hawks to do the Saints that kind of favour without essentially just paying Battle more, so I'm sure he is asking for that from a self interest perspective, but the only real leverage he has is to threaten to re-sign with us, so he might not want to test their resolve on that front.

Re: Battle
Just watched the replay of Carlton game . Paid particular attention to Josh .
If the Hawks were watching they wouldn't be shelling out shedloads , not one of his best games this year .
I only see him as a rock solid B class player .
But of course you need a dozen of these to form the nucleus of a great team .
I'll be upset if he leaves but we shouldn't pay overs to keep him , and hopefully we've got a replacement in the shoemaker

Isn’t he unrestricted?
We should offer him what we think he’s worth and he can go or stay.

From a guy on X.his name is Brett. Says he isn't trolling.
I’ve heard Josh Battle meeting with the club tomorrow, the Saints have upped their offer now more than the Hawks and he is set to stay a Saint for life. It’s not the $850-900k as reported, it’s less and wouldn’t have been band 1 compo.

And why is it good enough for Geelong players to take less to keep the team together but not St.Kilda players.
Piss poor.

Re: Battle
It looks like a pick in the 2nd round. Meanwhile Collingwood get pick 20 for John Noble from GC.
Nth Melb get pick 3 for that spud Ben McKay.

Are we paying 100% of it currently ? ( I hope not )just one of many .
It's a good time to be a young talent
You'd never say Battle is worth 900k but the money in the cap has got to be used .
Now it's just under 16 million but by 2027 it's going to be around 18.5 million.

Re: Battle
I’d be shocked if we didn’t have ridiculous cap space, half to three quarters of our list would be on league minimums. Same goes with the hawks and west coast.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Wed 28 Aug 2024 12:32amThere are lots of questions I have regarding the old salary cap .ausfatcat wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 10:11pmIn all this talk if Battle is worth 900k whats Wilkie worth, Nasiah worth? will this one signing blow the whole salary cap out through the flow on effects?silverhalo wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 12:08amI really hope that's true!Rubyjo wrote: ↑Mon 26 Aug 2024 7:53pm From a guy on X.his name is Brett. Re: Battle
I’ve often wondered if paying overs for certain players disgruntles others on less money.
You always have to pay overs ( especially us who are not a destination club) to get someone in.
I don’t know if it’s true but it’s been said we could have got Caldwell but wouldn’t pay asking salary.

What's the flow on effect when we offer King $1M+ a year? There will be about a dozen players putting a hand out.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Wed 28 Aug 2024 12:32amThere are lots of questions I have regarding the old salary cap .ausfatcat wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 10:11pmIn all this talk if Battle is worth 900k whats Wilkie worth, Nasiah worth? will this one signing blow the whole salary cap out through the flow on effects?silverhalo wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 12:08amI really hope that's true!Rubyjo wrote: ↑Mon 26 Aug 2024 7:53pm From a guy on X.his name is Brett. Front end Battle's contract, easy as that, surely we're not currently paying 100%??

Re: Battle
Sure it isn't money.
Simple StKilda offer $900,000 a season
Hawthorn then forced to match it
Triggers pick 8
Or like Danger did and with Gresham , negotiate with Hawthorn to get the structure required. Hawthorn then have the option in 2 years to change if required. Get AFL sign off in the back ground ( of course it happens).
Hawthorn baulk we keep him and with increases not going to hurt long term
