How do these journos know what's going on behind closed doors?

I hope he stays on. He should be there helping Marshall in the ruck. Not Owens!

All well and good to move players on but you need to replace them too.

Hayes has been injury prone but is ready to play and has looked decent in patches. Is still ahead of Heath and Keeler.
Barring the recruitment of an obvious successor… is an easy re-sign for me

Yeah easy decision, he would be still cheap to have on the list and with another pre season and a injury free run would be a great help to Marshall

Anything you read on Zero Content (AKA Zero Hanger), you can take with a pinch of salt.

I wouldn’t say a real “journo” has ever embarrassed his or herself by associating themselves with it.

Zero’s “editorial policy” is basically to get wannabe young writer-types to plagiarise news from other media sources, and to present it as original content.

It’s a clickbait site, smothered in crappy low rent ads, with a business model based on skimming a few cents out of the advertising clicks of news starved footy fans trawling the net.

So basically the gist of this article was that they saw something on the telly last night and wanted to let you know!!

Bravo Zero!! :D

Happy to keep Hayes Forward/Ruck is a spot we only have one of Marshall.Seems a smart natural footballer imo.If not for injuries reckon approx 50 solid games by now.Due for a injury free run thats for sure

Would still like to see him tried as a tall defender ... worth a contract and a pre-season training as a CHB.

If he can get on the park he has something to offer as a forward and back up ruck.

He leads up at the kicker which is a point of difference to King.

I think Camaniti looks more at home in defence than up forward.

As insurance for Roma you could understand holding onto both Campbell and Hayes for another season, but probably only one of them.

injuries a real issue and allows them to find out more about Heath and Keeler. Pity as showed a bit in the games he played and seems popular around the club.

Add Crouch, Allison, Hotton Campbell to that list = at least
Paton, Jones, Ross Membrey all big ? whether delist or trade

From media reports, it looks like Jack has been told he won't get another contract - which is a huge shame, IMO. Apparently, other clubs are keen, so I imagine he will get snapped up pretty quickly. If not, I hope we give him the chance to train with us over the summer.

Hard to believe that by this time next week we should know who stays and who goes.....can't believe how fast this footy season has gone - conversely the time it takes for season 2025 to get going will be agonisingly slow!

Every year seems to get faster and faster.

Hayes might get another 1 year deal but i'd be very surprised if he doesn't spend half of the season in the injured column.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I would like Jack to stay on the list, he gives us flexibility and variety in where he plays. After all the time he has spent in rehab though our medical people would have a fair idea of whether, at 29, his body can stand up to the rigours of AFL.

Funny how many were claiming he was the messiah not too long ago, and now it looks like he's gone!

Would be worth keeping if he was 26. IMO a great top up player for someone in flag contention 2025-26. Reality is that's not us.

I think his time has passed for us- he was a good pickup originally, played a couple of good games, a couple of average games then had a series of injuries, which has reduced his impact. If he could get an opportunity elsewhere, then he should grab it.

He's been named in the squad. This is interesting.

I didn't think Ross was sentimental.

Maybe he thinks it will give the team a bit of extra oomph, you know, it's Hayes' last game so let's win it for him

My guess is that he would have to play in the full team (i.e. not as the sub) because the team would be too short without him (or Campbell) coming in.

So, it seems fairly likely to me. Woof

I reckon Hayes has come in as a direct replacement for Caminiti as 3rd tall forward, a structure that has worked really well since King went out, which means someone else will be dropped for the inclusion of Phillipou who surely will resume to continue his role at centre bounces and stoppages.

This will be a career-destiny game for Hayes, play well and he'll be rewarded with a new contract, fizz and he's finito....

I would suspect it means either Garcia is the sub again and Campbell, Dow and McLennan miss out.
Dow and Garcia could be swapped.
