Best win of the year.
For mine, as cats are bona fide top 4 with everything to play for. Second half we pressured, tackled, and celebrated hard. Still euphoric now even though in the grand scheme of things it means very little. But it might convince Battle to stay….
Just a terrific win I thought. Was ready to walk home at halftime, but we came out with a real positive mindset. Kudos to the coaches for convincing the players they could win that game.
16 goals in 3 quarters was a great effort

Staggering turn around
I thought it was our worst half of footy, and was livid at HT
Couldn’t believe what was going on after HT

Re: Best win of the year.
Yes
At the game at HT I was pissed off and prepared to leave but I thought I'll stay for the third maybe we'll show some fight and make it interesting .
Got home and watched the replay.
After watching it I was suprised , we weren't that bad in the first half .
And after HT we were full of run and made them look second rate.

Definitely the best half if footy we have played in sometime. Geelong dont like fast tracks and were simply out worked in the end.

Re: Best win of the year.
It was surprisingly simpler to our win against the Swans back in round 17 where we were down by 30+ points in the third quarter. I thought that was our best win, but we were helped by poor Swans shooting in that game, we basically shut the cats out until those last two junk time goals

Re: Best win of the year.
Reckon the Collingwood one was better given that they were almost at full strength when we had to play them, but last night was a close second.Moods wrote: ↑Sun 18 Aug 2024 12:37am For mine, as cats are bona fide top 4 with everything to play for. When they are good they are real good
When they are bad they are real s***
Compare that to the lions game
Take into account the skunks just beat them

We saw it last night in the first half… when players are rattled, it spreads. The whole list was fumbling, nervous and desperate.
And you tend to see it with misses at goals too… it’s like the pressure compounds on the next person.
The trick is that is need a few super reliables that can just make something happen even against run.
IMO that’s why players like Crouch (either brother), Taranto (even if he’s having a mare today), Laird, Oliver in years past, Treloar, Walsh, Merret, LDU etc are so important (though I could have assembled a better list). Most instances they get their hands on it regardless and it takes one contest win out of nowhere to dish it out to a playmaker that sets up a goal and the nerves settle

I know what you mean but I disagree on that list of playersskeptic wrote: ↑Sun 18 Aug 2024 6:34pm

Yesterday in the 3rd quarter it was the captain Steele who got us going in the centre along with Marshall. Stocker and Wilson were super along with Wood and Clark. Wilkie was the calm general in defence.

Someone like a Brad Couch (and I respect that we rate him differently), may have been able to win a few more contests against play to steady us when we were headless.
Regardless of whether Crouch was that guy… (he’s only finished regardless), that’s the type that we’re lacking IMO. That said, Steele as a point of comparison is a good one… IMO, his strong bull work days are pbly behind him to a degree (he’s damaging in a different way now) but he almost was that guy in the first half too.
Kicked out first goal and almost had a second.

Re: Best win of the year.
Scott didn't seem so sanguine. Opposite actually.
AFL "experts" spend too much time in each other's company.
I'd back BM anytime any place v Barrett the Beige.
I assume his side hasn't made finals or is Geelong.

If we won the premiership Barrett would find a way to hose it down. He has never had any respect for St Kilda.

If we lost by 80 points would he have said it was an meaningless loss?
I doubt that he has ever said anything positive in his entire life.

Re: Best win of the year.
That's our 5th win of the year when coming from behind at halftime, three of which we've been more than 20 points behind.
We are also now 15-7 in final quarters in 2024.
Interestingly, in the last 7 weeks, if we score over 39 points, we win.

Re: Best win of the year.
I was initially shocked by the first quarter but predicted in the Match Thread before three quarter time that we would turn things around after half time, nevertheless, the effort and skills assounded me.

Re: Best win of the year.
We're a very good running team.
When the game opens up, we can be really damaging.
The scoring comes freely.
Add a fit and running Henry, Windhager and Phillipou, and a couple of good draft picks and we could really go places next year.
Wilson will only get better.
Overall, we are arguably the strongest team going round .(at full strength) .. where we might be "weak" in one area, we more than make up for in other areas.
We should leapfrog teams like Collingwood, Geelong and Carlton next year ... I'd be disappointed if we don't.

Maybe it's a secret game plan. Lull them into a false sense of security and then - whammo! Hit with them with the rhythm sticks of the Harlem Globetrotters.
