I can 100% assure you we will not pay overs. Josh will do what’s best for his family-as he should

I’d rather keep Josh and miss out on pick 5. He’s an integral part of a very effective backline. We don’t want to mess with these things.

Re: Battle
I'd rather he stays too.
I don't like the implication that he wants to leave for a few extra bucks.
I think it's more to do with list build and where St Kilda think they are in terms of bottoming out. Maybe the club believes we need another couple of years down the bottom of the ladder.
Hope Ross Lyon and his team mates convince him we are just as capable of achieving some success in the next few years.

Re: Battle
The issue I take is that we are expected to accept that players must do what's best for them and their families; yet the St Kilda footy club decade after decade cut loose great players often for little return and then hold on to players with what ends up being no value years later. We need to be as ruthless as a team as the players are "now expected" to be for themselves.
We do get it right at times no doubt. For instance,Coffield, he IS a great lad but couldn't and can't get his body right with an endless string of injury.
This is exactly where we are with King. I absolutely love this guy, I was frothing for us to draft him and I have been excited every season with hope. But, as we persist and keep thinking he's coming good and hope for something...it turns out he just isn't it ( lack of skill, or attitude or footy brains or injury or being sad or the midfield are all asleep or no one is kicking the ball into hands or the coach is rubbish, etc etc).
He has missed 28% of the games in his career through injury at the Saints. He will persist in falling short in his 6th, 7th and all seasons to come and instead of trading him ruthlessly for what's best for the club, we will be shamed for suggesting it and told we aren't loyal.
When does the knife cut both ways in OUR favour? Where we trade a "high value" player for a big return?

Re: Battle
Judging by his last after-game interview, I got the feeling he's gonna re-sign. He seemed pretty damn invested. Just a feeling I got.
Also, Hawthorn has upped its chase for Tom Barrass, which tells me they have the same feeling as well.
If I am right and he does re-sign, I hope everyone here makes another mental note of the absolute dribble that idiot Tom Morris reports. He's been acting like Battle is pretty much a Hawk already. He's the biggest hack in the business, which is really saying something for an industry littered with monumental hacks.

Morris claims that Hawforn can fit both in their salary caps. He is a dickwad though and not a credible source of information.Lennylegs wrote: ↑Sun 04 Aug 2024 11:44amJudging by his last after-game interview, I got the feeling he's gonna re-sign. Dress Morris in a dressing gown, blue rinse, curlers and have him peering through curtains. Just a gobby trouble maker. Industry standard of course.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Sun 04 Aug 2024 11:48amI'm not in the industry but I am a genunine hack. Re: Battle
I agree with the clubs position, however we wont pay overs to retain a player like Josh but we will (yes I know its media reports) potentially throw money at a player like Stengle to join the club?

Re: Battle
Then why are the Saints paying overs for a big sook to stand in the goal square while his opponent makes it easy for oppositions to exit 50.

Re: Battle
No. Instead, you’ll let him walk out for the sake of your own pinheadedness and overpay less performing players who were selected earlier in the draft.

Re: Battle
King is not worth the big $ being bandied about.
He's selfish, a big sook, a prima donna, and a waste of a list spot.
Pay Pou what they're paying the big sook.
Pou was happy to drop to the Zebs for a few games.
Listened to Lenny, paid attention, absorbed it all.
He's a future captain

Re: Battle
Battle is not worth what Hawthorn are willing to pay, and the compensation is overs
King would get 2 First Rounders - you keep 202cm key forwards that kicked 50 as a 21yo
BTW
How do we know what King is currently on?!

If and I stress if we make a Grand Final Max will be the reason we win. A big statement I know but he just needs a run at it without being injured. Have you ever thought that some of his behaviour is based solely on his frustration not to perform at the level he knows he has. Have a look at Curnow performances whilst struggling through injuries at the start of his career- rant over

Re: Battle
Well said. The constant bashing of Max King is ridiculous. You all need to calm down and get a check up from the neck up. Max King will be a Coleman medalist. Mark my words.tony74 wrote: ↑Mon 05 Aug 2024 11:20pm If and I stress if we make a Grand Final Max will be the reason we win.
