Gus McLennan to potentially debut

Post: # 2072745Post TheGreatZacsby »

With Tony74 stating Hunter Clark is out with tightness I went to see the squad selection, Phillipou is starting on the ground.

When I flicked from field view to list view on the saints website I saw below that Gus McLennan is debuting! He deserves it! Had a great game last week!

Seems unlikely.

IN: Campbell, Dow, McLennan, Phillipou

OUT: Clark (minor calf tightness)

Interchange from

3 Z. Jones
15
P. Dow
16
D. Butler
22
D. Wilson
34
H. Garcia
36
R. Bonner
38
T. Campbell
41
A. McLennan

I reckon Jones, Bonner and Butler will hold their place and maybe McLennan will be the sub.

It says on the team list (debut) so I reckon he will at least be sub

Until I see him calling his mum, I’m not buying it.

If you go by the team list (AFL site) the following players are in...Mattaes Phillipou, Paddy Dow, Tom Campbell, Angus McLennan without a sub being named and Clark, Jones, Butler, Wilson. Bonner & Garcia out.

I hope he gets a gig but I doubt it.

Just wondering what he's like?
Has he been doing well at Sandy. I haven't read much about him.

He still hasn’t called his mum but she’s there to see his debut.

Thought he did ok in a horrible team performance

14 disposals 7 marks 2 tackles and went at 92%DE

The experience will be invaluable

Well done Gus!!

He did some great intercepts! Took the game on. I thought overall a good first game.

Hard agree, great first game.

Hard to say without some more vision how his play style might have let Brisbane score. There were no clangers in individual contests but possibly positioning opened up our back 6 a bit. I'm sure the club will see that for what it is.

Good start by Gus.
With the way the saints played today he certainly had plenty of opportunities....
Did well (same can't be said of many others)

I hope he gets more opportunities. He only played because Byrnes was ill, but I'm glad he got the nod. I'm a fan. He's great overhead, is really brave and is a neat kick.

From what I saw at the game he looked good. He looks like Coffield.

Ross wasn't in the mood to praise any of his players. Anything above a derisory scoffing was reasonable acknowledgement.

Well done Gus an excellent debut game. Hopefully its the first of many for the Saints!

And to think half this forum were delisting him at seasons end.... :D some kids have it immediately some take a year of two, but our recruiting and development is 500% better than it has been in past eras. Its a credit to the club because the Sandringham alignment is a distaster. The sooner we can finance a stand alone VFL side the better off our club and development will be.

Impressive debut by Gus in a tough game- a pity the more experienced players showed little leadership to guide him along
