Selection
I find it absolutely bizarre?
Z.Jones still in - madness
T.Membrey still in - 4 possessions
Owens still in - 4 possessions
Darcy Wilson still in 11 possessions (averaging 12 in last 5 games)
It’s mind boggling,
Dropped
Schoenmaker, Paton (sub)
Brought in Garcia who didn’t play last week (should have)
Seb Ross 2 x BOG in a row
Still in the magoos behind Jones???
Allison 2 x 5 goal hauls, about to be delisted - give him a shot - drop an underperforming forward - he can’t do worse?!
Just don’t get it

Re: Selection
Me too. Why not use the selection thread for the game? Are your thoughts somehow more special to have your own thread when there is an existing one?
My thoughts exactly.

hard to throw a game against the eagles, but maybe we're gonna give it a shot?

Re: Selection
The thread is about bizarre selections
Not just the team vs WC
Although I do agree, I’m special and always wanted to have my own thread - because it is so damn important

Re: Selection
We don't seem to learn from experience...
clearly Wilson and Michito need a run in the twos.
May asxwell give either Keeler or Allison a debut....could hardly do less than Michito.
Zac Jones is a liability, let's have a look at Max Hall ( or anyone else)

Re: Selection
I don't mind making the young guys earn it.
Schoenmakers needed a good six weeks of VFL form under his belt before earning an AFL debut.
Phillipou had to string together a good month of footy before earning a recall.
Garcia seems to have just done the same.
Allison has played 3-4 good VFL games in 3 years. Keeler has been ok but is hardly banging the door down.
Heath and McLennan have been the most consistent at VFL level without gaining a debut, hence they're both emergencies this week.
Gifting young players debuts early in the year was a mistake and probably cost us 3 or 4 games of footy. Make them earn it.

Re: Selection
I wonder what's going to be said about Seb, Zac and Tim being given a farewell game.
Last game of the year v Carlton? with Blues needing to win to make the top 4.
Would that increase the crowd or make for fans packing their scarves early.
If that happened I'd be there to thank them and ponder our first round draft pick.

Re: Selection
I don't agree. The young kids were playing because we've had injuries and suspensions.
I'd rather provide AFL senior games to young draftees and give them a taste at the level, rather than 'gifting' an older player a game who is cooked.
We gifted Brad Crouch a game in round 1. That triggered a contract extension into 2025 apparently. Could be a list clogger...and an expensive one at that!!
We're a club looking to rebuild through the draft and we've brought in 10 or more 18 year olds in the last 3 years. There's no point drafting them unless you're going to try them out.

Re: Selection
It's funny. If we didn't have injuries and just played the senior players we might be playing finals again this year. Which would mean that maybe only one or two newbies would have played this year. Catch 22 or what? It's a fine balancing act.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 19 Jul 2024 6:26pmI don't agree. The young kids were playing because we've had injuries and suspensions.

Re: Selection
Selection has been an absolute joke all year and continues to be. Who gives a s*** now if we win or lose, just play the kids and let’s see if they’re any good.
We don’t need to see Membrey, Ross, Paton, Campbell and Cordy anymore

I didn’t know that Ross Paton Campbell and Cordy were playing today
