For abuse the action is intended to harm others so the punishment needs to be different.
I hope you didn't feel I was calling you homophobic. We all have capacity for empathy, so the best thing you can do is try to put yourself in others shoes and try to understand them. If you can't do that, the easiest thing you can do is just try to let go of that dislike/discomfort. You will probably be happier overall and no-one will mistake you for homophobic if you let it go past without comment.

Virtue signalling.
An example of this is someone who buys a Tesla and proudly declares they want to save the planet.
Ignoring the 500 tons of mining required to make the batteries, the toxic lithium ponds, and the tiny African children excavating cobalt with bare hands and zero PPE...(it's incredibly poisonous)
Thank you Scollop

I wish there were more people willing to stand up for the real victims throughout history - white straight male Christians…

I'm not standing up for anyone mate
I merely used them as a example
Feel free to attack them
I personally got no interest in attacking certain groups, but if that's your thing I respect your right to do so

Apologies if I offended you.
At least I didn't say you're evil or want to burn you for your beliefs.
I agreed with most of what you said regarding supporting Lance.

Re: Lance Collard
I was after a just and honest answer
It's fine for the world to use Jesus name as a cuss word ,but not fine to use derogatory remarks when it comes to gays . I think it's a valid point
If the answer is nobody gives a s*** about Christians
, so be it
Maybe the answer is Christians grin and bear it

That may be because he and Fagan have a great legal case they can throw at the AFL & ABC over the questionable Hawthorn racial scandal (that wasn't or so it appears)

Or maybe because calling a married 29 year old what Clarkson did is just not a big deal.older saint wrote: ↑Tue 16 Jul 2024 10:22amThat may be because he and Fagan have a great legal case they can throw at the AFL & ABC over the questionable Hawthorn racial scandal (that wasn't or so it appears)

Re: Lance Collard
What has Lance done this week?
100+ replies already suggests that he kicked 5 goals for Sandy, but no that was Allison!
So did Lance hit someone off the ball?
He can't have vilified an opponent surely, because that is so much worse or is it?

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.
A lot of people on here not content to just walk past but actively jumping in to minimise or even condone, an in doing so proving the point on how serious it needs to be taken.

Do we actually know what he said? Or is that secret business? I'm not prepared to accept that Collard said anything homophobic until I know what he said. All I know is that he said something that upset someone.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 15 Jul 2024 8:15pm I think the ‘racial slur first’ defence is an extremely long bow, as I assume those perpetrators would be reported also.
Sounds like a frustrated young footballer who fell back on bad habits. The standard has been set this year re the length of suspension if found guilty so not much to whinge about.
Hopefully he’ll learn and improve.
If he used the same word as Clarkson, then that's not homophobic. Unless of course you want to stereotype gay men.

Re: Lance Collard
The word, according to the reports from Foxfooty is the ‘f’ word which is often used as a slur
The shortened version of that word is also what we call a cigarette
Fox Footy’s Jon Ralph reported for the Herald Sun that the allegations involve multiple f-word slurs and multiple victims.

Big deal! I don't think he's too bright but the game with all the crackdowns and interpretations of tackles and various rule changes is going backwards at a rate of knots. The two new bigwigs have NFI. (AD and LK).
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Lance Collard
Stepping back from the mess a little:
How is it the AFL Secretariat can set it self up as quasi investigator, prosecutor and judge. What code or legislation does it need to comply with. How can an accused receive natural justice, who oversees the coming "execution" of the boy, how are penalties set,
the time frame . Reference to previous random suspensions and public humiliations?
If a person over 18 stands on the corner, say of Flinders and Elizabeth Streets, and addresses 6 to 10 male strangers in the way alleged what would be the penalty?
Were the Williamstown players really distressed, some in the crowd? Sandy players? Just interested in the personal parameters or is it a general affront to society and or AFL values that requires some penalty to be inflicted. What authority does the special investigator have and what outcomes does the AFL Secretariat want. Seriously curious. Also interested in how the players association conducts itself and the Club.

Re: Lance Collard
Is there any word for a vain, soft, squealing, exhibitionist sort of person?
Because I don't like them. I don't care what they do in the bedroom -- it's irrelavant. I just don't like them. I'm pretty sure most people don;t. And I want to offend them without being turned into a pariah.

Just going to ignore most of the nonsense to get at a point that maybe hasn't been addressed yet in the thread.
Don't imagine it is a street corner, imagine it is a workplace. Because for players and umpires and others it is a workplace. Now do you think the imaginary person gets off with no penalty? Or do they get talked to by management and maybe put on leave without pay or even sacked?
The idea that other players/officials/staff wouldn't want their workplace free of vilification shouldn't be a wild one.

Re: Lance Collard
If a St Kilda player in the future was homosexual or bisexual or wanted to look like Dani Laidely, would we be calling them derogatory names? I woudn’t. And I won’t call someone else who plays for another club any derogatory names either.
It’s difficult for most of us who grew up in an era where it was commonplace to discriminate and ridicule gays. We only recently got legislation that allowed same sex marriage. The younger generation have seen changes to what is acceptable and they had teen friends who were openly gay.
In our era, gays remained ‘in the closet’. They didn’t come out in public and most even kept their homosexuality hidden from their families. The trauma and hurt and high rates of suicide among gay people are often overlooked from people who want to argue ‘free speech’ and political correctness etc..

The AFL have determined that today these things are not acceptable in the game and that is the rules everyone knows.
