Had to be a free kick plain and simple odd the umpire watching decided not to award Webster a free.

Re: swan thug.
Seems to me that the AFL is setting Heeney up as the scapegoat in order to scrap the Brownlow Fairest rule.
Heeney gets the most amount of votes in Brownlow but due to a lineball suspect 1 week suspension he is ineligible to win .... Media go crazy and kick off demanding AFL to change the rule ...... due to popular demand the AFL change the rule

Re: swan thug.
The afl should definitely change the rule though. Match suspensions have increased 5 fold this years, will be farcical in future years if they keep it like this.Devilhead wrote: ↑Wed 10 Jul 2024 10:52am Seems to me that the AFL is setting Heeney up as the scapegoat in order to scrap the Brownlow Fairest rule.

Re: swan thug.
I think this is the correct result, you can't keep claiming that the head is sacrosanct and then allow hits to the noggin.
Not a huge amount in it and it certainly wasn't malicious, but get the head get a holiday is a sensible approach for the AFL.
I also think that he suffered from the backlash associated with the multiple Butters incidents. The press was asking after the last time he was offered a fine, "What does a Brownlow chance have to do to get suspended?"
They would have no argument to scrap the fairest rule as the media would be saying why get rid of it as you refuse to suspend anyone who is in line for the Brownlow anyway.

Accidentally or not, he threw his arm back knowing he was going to make contact of some kind …contact to the head player down with bloody nose has to be penalised the tribunal finally gave themselves a tick

Re: swan thug.
I see that the swine are appealing the Tribunal decision, in the hope, forlorn or not, of getting their thug off scott free.
Lets hope that the AFL has got the balls to throw out this silly appeal.

I wonder if Heeney and Co. play the good bloke card at the "appeal" hearing.
I think historically, the Appeals Tribunal rolls over more than my dog.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Appeal will be interesting. Maybe it's that time of the season for special rules for special players?

What if Heeney had snotted Dangerfield, Daicos or Cripps. Swans are banking on the victim being a lesser light from a small club and that causing sub concious lessening of the crime. He did it, he should cop the week. Piss poor by him and the Swans.

You seriously need help for some type of inferiority complex or other mental issue.

Re: swan thug.
I'm just looking at multiple repeats of the incident.
It is very hard to see what could have possibly caused the injury -- a vague loose swipe from the side of an open palm?
Heeney was clearly just turning back to push Webster away for a little more separation, and collected his nose down at waist level. Clearly an accident, worthy of a free kick if somebody saw it.
If it were any St Kilda player being charged on that we would all be outraged. Legitimately.
If we believe in the ideal of fair umpiring we should be advocating for a downgrade too.
And a change in the Brownlow eligibility rules.
The original purpose of the disqualification was to ensure no one who engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct could win it.
The suspension rules now make unintentional contact resulting in injury an automatic suspension. Though this type of accidental contact does need to be discouraged, even sanctioned, it is simply not unsportsmanlike.
