His continued knee and shoulder injuries are a real concern. I'm hoping he doesn't go the way of Xavier Clarke, whose body just couldn't stand up to the demands of AFL footy after his first few years.

If his knee was injured in the first or third quarters why was he put into the ruck? The ruck is one position on the ground that is most likely to damage a knee.
If he was struggling moving why did he cover the most ground in the last (look at his heat map)
Why wasn't he subbed out?

Don't even get me started on the pathetic efforts at contest. He was that sore he couldn't compete with a third rate back man (Zerk not Aliir).
His mind was not in the game.

Really feel for Max King.

I think it would be both in his interests and that of the club if he found a new home next year - he seems desperately unhappy and lady luck is just not smiling on him with his constant injuries. I think he needs a change of scenery and in return I expect the Saints would get a high first round draft pick.

f*** everyone is dumping on the guy. He hasn't been great but undoubtedly he has huge upside. Hopefully he gets a lot stronger next year and he realises his potential at the Saints.

Do you guys really think Max will have a "big" pre-season and come through a "lot stronger" next year? Somehow, I doubt it.

Just put Max in cotton wool for the rest of the season, the criticism is just too much for a kid of his age.
Rest/Reset and be good for 2025 as this season is a write off, and I also think other players should also consider the same.
Let the kids in the second's have a crack at the big games.

Cheers

No-one can predict what you ask, but I ask you, are you influenced by Media shock jocks or supporters of other teams who are smacking their lips at the thought of picking him for peanuts ... or is it just that you have completely forgotten what Max is capable of.

Saw Max in my local Woolworths recently. He looked very unhappy there too, like he wished he was somewhere else. Coles, perhaps!

I feel sorry for him. Expectations way too high. He's never going to be a Fraser Gehrig, and I'm not sure what we can actually expect from him, or when.

I'm fairly certain we won't miss him over the next few weeks, though.

No, no shock jocks (or any other jocks) consulted. I am probably wrong but he looks about the same size as when he first started (and so does his brother). I don't think they're the kind of lads who put on any weight or muscle. But, as I said, I could be wrong and hope I am.

Everyone else in a Woolies always looks so jolly so this is significant.

I don't think his body type can bulk up. He's had lots of time to do it, and he still looks like a new-born giraffe.

Some of just don't have it in the DNA

Is it possible a player can sustain injuries on a frequent basis because concentration levels are well below required levels for the task at hand?

King now is taking time away from the club during rehab.

RTB mentioned mental health etc, which I think is an easy cop-out for King

Lyon (yes, the Coach of St Kilda FC) gave an interview where he referenced King

This included that his knee would be immobilised for a number of weeks

And then you read what is contributed by some on here

King is a required player at St Kilda

Full stop

No more cotton wool.

Into the gym and diet of protein shakes. He needs weight on over summer.

Meanwhile he does need to build that engine. His issues are that he has a 2l engine and a brittle body.
Time to install the v8 and body protection. Has plenty of time to do it now and get it right.
If he comes back sooky string bean I will be disappointed (but not shocked)

Joey does a show called First Crack on Fox Footy every Sunday night

He showed an important stat. which explains our issues with scoring.

We are No. 1 at scoring from defensive half intercepts

We are 18th at scoring from our forward half intercepts.

It's not ball movement. With ball movement and scoring chains originating from the back half we are obviously very very good.

If we win the ball from a forward half intercept, that's where there's issues and Joey says it’s 3 things.

1. Ball use

2. Connection between your mids/high half forwards with their forward targets

3. The forwards not competing or not winning enough contests

I think our synergy improved today because of Henry and Phillipou. Both were outstanding

The forwards not competing resonates with what I see. It's well known that our delivery is not the best and we 'bomb' it a lot. But watch most teams, they also bomb it when there's no clear option. The difference is some forwards out there can read it and plan their run up and attack the drop of the ball.

If you're in motion, you really have a lot of advantage in the air, whether it be height or strength at the contest. Not so much if you're standing still.

Which raises the obvious question as to whether we would have beaten the Swans had Max been playing.

Hard to know how we would have gone with Max playing against the Swans, simply because the players up the ground seem to always want to bomb it to Max. Which would have changed some of our forward entries.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Fraser Gehrig
He was the whipping boy at WC at the same age too

I’ll make a prediction
Max King will kick more goals at StK than Fraser did

How old was Gehrig when he came to us ?
If I'm not mistaken he played fullback in the first Season

I predict Max won't be breaking Gehrig's bench press record

Ahhh…. Very good
Now go 1 step further and admit to all - as Joey noted- there is “myth” about Saibts game plan and stodgy ball movements and game plan blah blah blah by lazy idiots who do **** all analysis other than get their opinions off Kane Corns???
Joey ALSO stated the forward half failures to score is almost ENTIRELY due to capability/ talent
But noooo….its al RTB game plan …
Absolutely dross and glad Joey showed it for what it is

“Yeah….nah””
