Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
I agree that we would love Keeler to be a forward ruck, however how do you conceive any chance of him being successful or contributing as a forward/ruck in any matches this season when he has trained and played as a key defender all year?

I imagine that’s where he’s played the majority of his footy and the opportunity is where the opportunity is.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 03 Jul 2024 2:05pmI agree that we would love Keeler to be a forward ruck, however how do you conceive any chance of him being successful or contributing as a forward/ruck in any matches this season when he has trained and played as a key defender all year?
Realistically the only other option is to play Heath/ Campbell in the ruck and play Marshall forward more

I'm expecting Campbell to stay in with RoMa mainly forward this week.
Up til now I'd have said Heath but it would be an almighty ask for both him or Keeler to match it with Grundy in the ruck. Heath would be a more suitable forward replacement than Keeler based on this year's training and VFL

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Totally agree, I doubt Lyon thinks that way though. TBH I am not sure if Lyon has AFI how to develop and position young players.
Owens is the classic example the kid cant get near it up forward and is a bull dozer in close, so Lyon leaves him there and doesnt give him minutes through the middle. Sometimes players just need to be taken to the ball and things click again. But Lyon gets the idea Owens is too slow for the midfield so leaves him forward to rot. Lyon IMO is a very poor development coach and its starting to look like he is struggling to get anything right at all in the main gig ATM.
Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Leaving aside the usual garbage contributed to this site, Keeler to me has a point of difference given his height and his athleticism (so he can run and he can jump)
In defence he jumps getting a fist in at least
To me, he is a player who could play anywhere the proviso being as a forward with a dedicated opponent at this stage of his career

At the rubbish tip (the Saintsational forum) Killa reckons he's the Tob Garboligist
... y'know what I mean...in the land of the blind, the man with one eye is ....King.
And so it came to be
..that an opportunity has opened up with the King out and the Prince gets a chance to play in the big league.
I agree with the op and I agree with Killa.
Keeler doesn't need to be best on ground. Doesn't need to play 65% game time or more...Just get out there and have a go. Showcase your talent son

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
I agree that either Keeler or Heath needs to come in. See what they can do. Our latest crop of recruits this year don't look like being much good at the moment (except for Wilson who, unfortunately, is starting to feel the strain of a long season).
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Don't think Keeler or Heath this week. The feel good first game announcement vids are normally up by now. Probably Marshall to spend more time forward of the ball and Campbell to stick to Grundy. Have a good feeling about Sunday.

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Keeler is closer to AFL ready than Heath. Just going on Talent and fitness.
Heath is 204 which is why he’s on an AFL list
Keeler is 198 and has talent

A debut infront of friends and family next week could be the go?

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
I think the Sandy report for last week said it was Keeler’s first game after a 4 week injury, if that is the case no way he would get in on only one game back

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Now that King is gone for the year, Keeler needs to push Sharman out to earn his debut, unless of coarse the coaches are looking to set up with two ruckman then I suppose they can both play in the same side. How Members performs could have an impact on another spot opening up but you'd prefer a scenario where players are pushing players out of the side rather than players falling out of the side.

Now that King is gone we need Sharman to step up and show what most of us thought he is capable of.

Re: Time for Isaac Keeler
Playing one of Keeler/Heath each week for the rest of the season makes all the sense in the world. You're giving them a taste of AFL footy to fast track development, we're getting an idea of where they're at, we're easing the load on Marshall (no point flogging him to death in a non finals year) and the Sandy tall situation becomes less crowded which allows Keeler to play his natural position.
Would not surprise me if neither debut in 2024 though.
