Re: Anyone have any intel?
Tom Morris is a smug flog
Plays for South Caulfield and is a wanker
Claim to fame
Scored a double hundred last season - against a bottom of the ladder team who were all on a bucks the night before
South were 0/400 odd.
Marshall is a required player! What other fkn ruckman do we have. LDU would be nice, but not at the cost of our most required player, probably our best player!

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Considering our lamentable record of trading out ruckmen -- McEvoy, Hickey, Stanley -- all of whom went on to play in GFs, who would be surprised to learn that the Saints' brains trust hasn't considered the possibility of doing so again?

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Marshall has currency, and funnily enough, when Campbell was in the ruck out midfielders seemed more assured. Wouldn’t be the worst idea to cash in if he wants out. There’s an opinion from many that ruckman are the most overrated position.

Marshal absolutely is a required player, until he isn’t. If he wants out ( who knows?) we find the best deal, contracted or not. Like I said, we hold the whip hand, but constantly repeating that he’s contracted and we need him is almost irrelevant to the the whole issue.

And, of course, we'll pay 50% of his contract...lol. It's what we do.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Tue 25 Jun 2024 5:11pmTrue if a player really wants out the contract tends to be a non issue as the player will get their way.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
I meant all AFL teams - my fault for not making that clear. However, the Ratten contract made no difference to his sacking which also supports my point that contract's make little difference when clubs and players really want the move.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Ratten had to be paid out - because he was under contract
Last season we paid Billings and Ratten
Because we have Marshall under contract until 2027
1- He needs to be satisfied with the deal
2- We need to be absolutely satisfied with the deal
I reiterate
We trade him out, exactly who plays in the ruck?
Moose?!
Marshall has currency - why?
Because he’s very good

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Contracts for coaches and players typically contain different clauses, and each contract is unique. For coaches, clubs often include provisions that limit their financial liability. These clauses can allow the club to terminate the contract without paying out the full amount if certain conditions are met. This was mandated by the AFL a few years ago when they stipulated that clubs need to implement protective measures to ensure financial stability and responsible management.

Agreed.
If Marshall wants out which I doubt is true and we could get two quality players in return I'd do it.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Finey reckons Sean Darcy will be at Geelong next year
They obviously need another ruckman with Stanley soon retiring. I reckon they played Sam De Konig because that’s the sort of mobile ruck they’d like to go with …
So here’s the possible trade scenario
Saints get Tyson Stengle and Sean Darcy. Geelong get Marshall. Freo get trade picks and salary cap relief
Darcy comes with a hefty $1 million p/annum 6 year contract that was signed by Freo last year.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Freo will want future firsts only, given they require at least 3 to get warner from sydney next year. Media reporting they are looking to off load all of their firsts this year. So a trade scenario would see us give up at a minimum:Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 26 Jun 2024 12:06pm Finey reckons Sean Darcy will be at Geelong next year

Marshall and our first next year and maybe a second round pick this year or the compo pick for battle (likely late first).
This flys in the face of the clubs documented "plan to 2026" which places heavy emphasis on us going to draft in 2024. So can pretty confidently confirm we wont be getting darcy and stengle although i like the thinking. No chance marshall leaves anyway, the reporting reaks of being made up nonsense.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Our forward line with Max, Michito, JH, Wilson, Liam and Bradley looks pretty good, doesn't it. Stengle probably an upgrade on Butler but hardly worth a lot of effort?

Stengle is a big upgrade on butler and will demand a hefty price as a top 3 small forward in the game.

Hannebrey got 100% I understand.
The lol is the deal both got from previous management. Fools.
The current StKilda is well removed from that untidy version.
But cleaning house and trying to make up for lost time continues.

Some wag on FB, a media outlet, says Hawks have offered Battle a 6 yr deal?

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Salary cap is a game. Clubs will try and beat up prices on some players to squeeze the cap so they can't poach others, or so they have a chance to poach future deals.
Sydney and the Bulldogs have been at it for a few years with the plan for Sydney to land JUH.

Mitchell calling Battle 5 times a day according to an article I read.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
A risk players implicitly take by delaying signing is suffering a serious injury before any contract is finalised.
Another is the "new" club may reneg on terms once bridges are burnt.
I think our list is superior to the Hawks' , so arguably no advantage ladder wise in medium term to changing horses.
Whatever, I hope it works out OK for Josh. He is a damn fine player.
Hope he stays but que sera sera.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Contracted til 2027 and very much a required player though. It's not like he's got one year left and then could walk out as a FA. If a team manages to pry him out of St Kilda we will need to be very, very heavily compensated
