Anyone have any intel?
Tom Morris suggests that Rowan Marshall may field offers from rival clubs:

Anyone have any insight into the validity of this claim?

Re: Anyone have any intel?
His form has generally been good under RTB. I think he's become a better player, which doesn't appear to be a sign of an unhappy player.
There's no replacement, and he's also contracted, so he can't leave unless the contract is broken by mutual agreement.
Fanciful speculation.

Just another AFL journo making s*** up for a story!
Some of these no hopers think they are the industry
Truth be told, they are a bunch of wanker salesman who nobody likes!

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Interesting. Wasn't Gresham his best mate? Might be a bit jaded after he left? Probably his agent trying to drum up interest.
Don't think the club would be keen to let him go. I wouldn't take anything less than 2 first rounders for him (one top 5 or two top 10, none of that 2 late first crap), so I don't know anyone would meet my personal price. Maybe the kangas for LDU and another first, but don't imagine he would want to go there

He did work at St Kilda.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Wild that some think the journo is too blame. Even the people pretending to be jouros over at sky find dodgy sources rather than just making things up from nothing.
Someone always talks to start stories like this. Number one suspect is the agent trying to get his player a better situation and number two suspect is a club trying to fish out what they might be able to get in a trade. Take your pick which you think this one might be

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Would be wild to lose Marshall.
Greater player, highly respected, well liked, would be amongst the best paid
Harder to think of a bigger disaster than losing him.
Club would lose a lot of face - doubt there’s much to it

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Geeez that’s a fun question.
On the one hand Marshall pbly only has 3 years left and LDU more so it’s tempting… but you’re robbing Peter to pay Paul and I worry about the impact of trades like this on a club’s culture.
I’d pbly pass

If LDU wants to come to us, we shouldn't be giving up anyone. Especially one of our best players

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Maybe instead of getting all upset when a journo writes something you don’t like, you should be asking why all of a sudden are some of our best players considering leaving?

Re: Anyone have any intel?
The story seemed to be a part of a Geelong story that they need a ruckman, then came the statement that Marshall was unsettled and may look around, the conclusion was they should seek Roma.
Guessing but not mentioned they probably want a new full forward so maybe next it’ll be King in the spot.
Didn’t Pou’s manager say some negative stuff a while back ?

Nearly half of the traded players are contracted - it's becoming a non issue.

Battle, Marshall... the language used in the report suggested that its not all smooth sailing down at the club

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Why is it making up s***? Because you don't like what the journo has actually said? Have you actually read the article or just the headline? All Morris is saying is that Marshall isn't 100% happy atm. Nil mention that Marshall is going to try and leave or that he's on the market. But there is mention that other clubs have their antenna up with regards to Roma's apparent indifference to how he's feeling atm. I for one, don't think it's s*** at all. Did you see Ro accept his BOG medal after the Hawks loss in tasi? He looked like he wanted to throw the medal into the grandstands. Players play for finals and premierships. He's not getting any younger and is probably extremely frustrated right now. Does that mean he wants to leave or that we would let him leave? Probably not. But if the Cats or anyone else, offered a couple of 1st rounders for him it would be something we'd consider.
Tom Morris, in my opinion, is one of the best journo's going around. In my opinion he made a horrible mistake and at the time got ahead of himself. Since returning he's been a lot more measured and has a lot of contacts in the industry. I believe what he's saying but am not overly perturbed. We hold the whip hand here because he's contracted. Potting journos is the 2nd easiest thing to do behind potting the umpires.

Re: Anyone have any intel?
Morris and integrity in journalism have not crossed paths. Its another disingenuous attempt to make trouble, get clicks. There is no AFL "journalist" that is trustworthy. As the utube program on them observes: their approach is to throw darts at the board and very occasionally get one right. Vast majority of their speculation is baseless a lot of the reporting has a nastiness to it - apparently punters love that or at least react to it, and that's what matters to the journos, not veracity.

True if a player really wants out the contract tends to be a non issue as the player will get their way.

He and his ilk make a living out of confecting headlines with all the latest goss, based on flimsy information gleaned from managers and agents.
Not ever do these sorts of stories quote a reliable source, and that's because there isn't one.
Best to take what these people report with a large dose of salt!
