We're not talking about asking him to get in a boxing ring, or to go from playing Aussie rules to playing Rugby Union
This is just how we were with Rhys Stanley.
Yeah. True

Same with Billings. He developed bad habits and wasn't pulled up for it. Kept avoiding physical contests.

With Rhys filling out and becoming stronger, he was able to hold down the position of first ruck with Geelong in the past few years. I think their midfield was so strong that they just needed him to compete and try a break even.

Rhys was a good athlete and Freo, Port and Geelong all wanted him (back in the 2014 trade period) because they knew he could fill the role of a ruck/forward. He wasn't great at either but he was good enough to play a supporting role.

I think with Max King it's not a case of St Kilda wanting to develop him as a ruckman. We have to change his behaviour. He must be 'forced fed' physicality (that's what Leigh Matthews said) for the sake of his future as a KP Forward.

Did Billings never play a good game at StKilda?

I don’t think there’s been an AFL/VFL player ever - that’s got to that level of footy

And avoided physical contact

That comment is ridiculous

JB was unlucky, just got to potential contests that fraction late or was distracted in the moment.
It might have been that his fierce will to win affected those dolly set shots he often fluffed.
Mental toughness can manifest in odd ways I guess.

Spot on, 150 games and keyboard warriors questioning his courage.

Yes he was predominately an outside player, and was not fierce, but he took his turn when he had to go like all AFL players.

You don’t play 150 games if you play the way some on this forum are suggesting he consistently did.

It’s embarrassing that fat footy supporters who never pulled on a jumper at any level, go to games or get on forums and question the courage of players at the elite level.

Fkn embarrassing

Billings put his head over the ball and went back with the flight plenty of times.

Lobb is a dud. He overrates himself.

As reported in the press he wants a trade because the Bulldogs aren't playing him enough. That would be overating yourself.

This would be the third time he has asked for a trade and from 3 different teams. Each time he has only been with the team for a short time.

Isn’t one of the common reasons for asking for a trade is to get more opportunities?

Another is to move interstate

Commonly, yes.

But, I know in my field of work (plus any others) there are those who every 6 to 12 months are always on the lookout for a new job - whether it be opportunity, they’re being under-utilised, they don’t like their boss, they’re being micromanaged, they were sold a pup, etc.

At some point when you keep seeing that person’s CV, you ask yourself what’s the common denominator here. Is this person that unlucky and keeps working for a lemon, or are they the issue?

What you're saying is that he's not a team player. In a team sport that's not good! He wants more opportunities because he's not that good and thinks he's better than what he's producing.

Poor man's Rhys Stanley. Very poor man's. As poor as me, and I wouldn't buy Rory with your money.

I think son of Lurch should stick it out at Footscray.

They keep moving around to stay one step ahead of being found out that they are incompetent.

Is he really that bad? As a fwd/second ruck

Quick Look at his numbers averages
11pos
5 marks
2tackles
1.1 goals
10.5 hit outs

Has a best season of 36 goals, career wise has 22 Brownlow votes. I think he’s a stop gap solution- a piece of the puzzle.
