Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
The guy is a complete knob and not very good. Looks like Paddlepop Lion and plays like him. Can't even cut it as a key defender in the VFL

Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
Hawthorn aren’t the only club into Battle.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
The questions being why would we not retain Battle and why would we not retain Howard
Yes, Battle is undersized as a KPP defender but has the competitive streak to significantly address this and with Howard is a cornerstone of a defence which basically performs to requirements
None of Wilkie, Battle nor Howard lower their colors often - noting they can be caught out by opposition delivery as can any defender from any side
As a collective they compliment each other which is also a strength
The conversation should be retaining Battle and Howard - not losing them
That Battle’s Contract is where it is at sees him testing the market which is fair enough but I would imagine the St Kilda agenda is to retain him as a required player and that he is well aware of this fact
Unlike other sides we do not have a reliance on players over the age of 30 with multiple hundreds of games experience - we are invested in youth with 27 the most recent to showcase his potential
In regard that cohort Battle, Howard and Wilkie are leaders at St Kilda

Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
B.M - you seem interested in us taking Barrass, Lobb and Phillips.
Please tell me you are not part of SOS’ recruiting team!
Add these 3 to Bonner & Dow, no thanks.
If Barass was any good they’d probably not be as interested in Battle.

I agree all the above players are spuds. But I wouldn’t put Dow in a group with any of these players.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jun 2024 12:11am B.M - you seem interested in us taking Barrass, Lobb and Phillips.

Dow is much younger and he’s shown glimmers. I reckon he will come good.

Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
Why not just keep Battle, a known gun coming into his prime?
I'm happy to move Howard on to save coin tho.

Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
Dow is 2 years older than Barrass and 3 years older than Phillips
I am just looking at ways to churn over and improve the list, and find Mason wood style bargains
We cannot draft 8 players
We also need to add depth to the list
When looking for bargains, look for players not getting an opportunity

Yep, I agree there can be bargains in players not getting an opportunity at their current club.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jun 2024 1:58pm Dow is 2 years older than Barrass and 3 years older than Phillips

I think the issue is how many cast offs who are not up to it do we take.
I think Dow is the most overrated Saints player in recent memory. Somehow on securing him many on the forum have him as a clearance player who explodes away from the stoppage.
He’s a C grade mid with questionable foot skills, I hope he becomes a VG player for us, but I don’t see it.
For every Mason Wood is probably multiple guys who never become regular performers.

Re: Denver Grainger Barrass
Because Battle is UFA and we can't match to keep like you can with RFA players
If Battle wants to leave .... he leaves

Parents that give kids names that make filling in Arrival cards difficult create a burden for their elaboratly named offspring. Often it can mean they can't play so well with the weight of letters on their back.
