German heritage

Post: # 2066435Post Big Max »

It was great to see Arie Shoenmaker's debut. Tall, blond and with German name.

It got me thinking which other players we've had with German ancestors.

Carl Ditterich and Nick Riewoldt immediately spring to mind, also tall and blond.

Stewie Leowe, Adam Schnieder, Troy Schwartz .. any others?

The name is Dutch actually, from ‘shoemaker’

The German equivalent would be Schumacher

I think you've nailed most of them, Big Max. Being of German heritage, I've also had an interest in who our players with teutonic roots are.

To add to your list I would suggest Fraser Gehrig, Peter Kiel, Don Discher and Brett Voss. We're starting to assemble a decent side. Feel free to add to it, forumites.

That is an order! Only kidding :D

Gehrig was a fairly common name around Zürich. I know for a while after he retired he was living in Schaffhausen on the German border.

Here's a couple of old timers

Wels Eicke
Billy Schmidt

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."
