You all need to take a chill pill.
Either ban me for suggesting what you're clearly incapable of hearing, or be an adult and discuss like an adult.

The only relocation I want to see is to the JO.

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
Although the poorer and weaker clubs like ours possibly won't ever win a flag without considerable AFL concessions like North are currently enjoying, our survival is assured whilst we remain a gambling product. Gambling revenue has become a gold mine and the AFL wants more teams in the competition as it represents growth and gambling revenue and with the immigration target of 50 million people by 2030 and 1 million per year just in Melbourne alone. So I'd further suggest our club's existence is assured for those reasons alone however what is less assured is us ever having any actual success on GF day as flag success for our club isn't the priority for the AFL executives and their KPIs and bonus system.

Merge or relocate, no longer the St Kilda Football Club and I'd be out and so would many others.
Brisbane have got nothing to do with Fitzroy and Sydney have got nothing to do with South Melbourne.
Wait...ummm
Whoops Grand Finals GALORE
Thats the bonus, if daddy afl wants you to go & you play nice he pads your pocket with gifts
But that ship has sailed the afl is fixed on Tassie for the next 5 yrs

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
I have always felt sorry for South Melbourne and Fitzroy supporters. Imagine having to yell out go Brisbane or go Sydney. Their local clubs are no more Brisbane people wouldn’t have a clue who Kevin Murray was or Sydney people knowing the chimp
I assisted min keeping The Club afloat during the tough times. I’ll be damned to see it have its name changed or club merged
Anyone who suggests a merger or relocation is not a real St Kilda supporter

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
Not that it means that I think relocation is or wax a good idea
But
I reckon Fitzroy and South supporters aren’t too unhappy
Brisbane 3 premierships and 5 GFs
Sydney 2 premierships and 4 GFs
There is no way Fitzroy or South would have survived let alone won premierships
If we were ever going to relocate it should have been in 2011 when we walked at Moorabbin- maybe instant going to Seaford - gone to Gold Coast?

The Swans moved in 1981 (pre-AFL).
They won a flag in 2005. Then another in 2012. Both AFL assisted with COLA and some favourable tribunal results.
Fitzroy ceased to exist in 1996. They were absorbed by the Brisbane Bears - who were terrible for a decade...But were injected with eight Fitzroy players at the time:
Scott Bamford, John Barker, Brad Boyd, Nick Carter, Shane Clayton, Simon Hawking, Chris Johnson, and Jarrod Molloy.
The only surprise was that it took them five years to win a flag with that help.
Under the current AFL strategy, there would have been no relocations or mergers and both clubs would have survived in their own right (AFL assisted).
If that had happened, maybe Tassie would be in the competition already and Sydney and Brisbane would only have one team each.
FWIW, most Fitzroy supporters I know do not support Brisbane.
And most Sydney supporters I know abandoned the Swans the minute they went to Sydney.

Simple one word answer SS:SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jun 2024 12:42pm The code is about to expand to 19 teams.
There isn’t enough AFL quality talent to even fill 18 teams.
Since GWS and GCS entered the comp, we have failed to build a competitive lineup worthy of challenging or even being a consistent finals performer.
While the AFL won’t admit it, the code can’t sustain 10 teams in Victoria.
Heritage is great, but at what point are we prepared to admit that we have failed to adapt to modern structure of the code?
YES

I've known a few Fitzroy supporters, who follow Brisbane because they wanted a team to follow and the colours are the same. They don't feel its the same. They say that the 3 premierships in a row, were somewhat hollow.

I'm thinking a merger with Sydney next week, the new team to be known as the St Kilda Saints.

I don’t think anyone on here can speak for South/Fitz people
Kevin Murray loves Brisbane Lyons
Bob Stilton loves the Sydney Swans
To survive and keep their history- they had to relocate

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
They had the choice
Keep their jumper and continue as the Swans or Lions or cease to exist like University
Sydney Swans team of the century is full of South Melbourne players
Ditto Brisbane
Brisbane Lions would care a lot more about their Fitzroy history than the Bears

They had a choice ? they lost everything..the jumper ? it had bears on it until they tried to soften the blow, and Sydney our rival city in so many ways.. If my side went there..after spewing my guts up I would totally disown them and follow my local team.
So BM youd be ok following the Darwin Saints...the timbuktoo Saints ?
As much as those supporters have kept a brave face I feel sorry for them.
