Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
The code is about to expand to 19 teams.
There isn’t enough AFL quality talent to even fill 18 teams.
Since GWS and GCS entered the comp, we have failed to build a competitive lineup worthy of challenging or even being a consistent finals performer.
While the AFL won’t admit it, the code can’t sustain 10 teams in Victoria.
Heritage is great, but at what point are we prepared to admit that we have failed to adapt to modern structure of the code?

Always thought we should have put our hands up to be the tassie club.

Is this thread a troll?
Merge or relocate, no longer the St Kilda Football Club and I'd be out and so would many others.
Brisbane have got nothing to do with Fitzroy and Sydney have got nothing to do with South Melbourne.

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
Predictable responses.
Putting aside the emotions and the argument of heritage, what structure have we implemented to better ensure future success since our last great era ended in 2011?
Relocating back to Moorabbin and participating in themed matches.
Three rebuilds later and we still don’t draft and develop A-grade talent and we still don’t attract top end talent via FA.
We continue to prove that we are mismanaged and unviable operation.

I would think that you should keep your shitty Sydney comments in the equally shitty Harbour city.
The brions played off for the cup last year and if it wasn't for a cheating maggot and his laughable 50 metre penalty , we may well have won last night.

Your last sentence is demonstrably, ludicrously wrong, however, it it were correct how would relocating or merging fix things?SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jun 2024 1:15pm Predictable responses.

(Noting of course you are not a supporter and only post negatives to get fools like me to bite. But this latest bag of excrement throw seems bizarre even for your level of dislike of our Club).

Grow up. Are we incapable of debating this at a constructive and adult level?

i can debate reasonable subjects but not the s*** that you throw up. You are the one that needs to grow up or piss off back to your own teams forum.SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jun 2024 1:28pmGrow up. Are we incapable of debating this at a constructive and adult level?

TBH, It's not a debatable topic here...It's akin to going on a physics forum and putting up the topic of the Earth being flat and asking to debate that.SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jun 2024 1:28pm

It is a ridiculous post and not warranted here.

But ...I think the better analogy would have been to say the physicist walks into a Flat Earth Convention and tries to convince them the Earth is round

Nah.
That analogy assumes the premise that the OP is correct. The OP is not correct. Relocations or mergers have not been on the AFL agenda since the days of Wayne Jackson.

Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
So because I’m from Sydney, I’m not allowed to barrack for a Victorian team, or allowed to have an opinion in that I think the administration rinses and repeats bad management and that I don’t think a merger or relocation shouldn’t at least be discussed.saynta wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jun 2024 2:18pmi can debate reasonable subjects but not the s*** that you throw up. Again, my question was simply “would it be such a bad thing?”
You’re the ones incapable of saying “no. s*** idea. Move on.” Your response is the typical, emotional, knee-jerk reaction of people who are so consumed with their own ideology, they simply can’t debate like adults.
Like I said, grow up .

No merger or relocation. The Saints would lose their identity.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Living in Sydney can do strange things to one’s brain
Re: Would a merger or relocation be such a bad thing
I agree the standard has slipped dramatically over the years - confirmed by players coming from Under 18 level in the SANFL and the WAFL playing at AFL level in their first seasons without playing at Senior SANFL or WAFL level prior to being drafted.
The whole competition has been polluted by the AFL seeking constant headlines for relevance - even over summer.
The AFL needs to go back to basics.
Your Draft position is dictated by where you finish in the prior season and ALL you can do is trade your Picks.
So no Father/Son, no Academy Picks which means there in nothing to compromise the Draft apart from trading a Pick for an established player you seek.
This includes no "Free Agency" nonsense.
All these issues are about publicity.
