Will Phillips anyone??
Mentioned on TV last night that North Melbourne's # 3 draft pick in 2020, Will Phillips, can't get a game even though doing quite well in the seconds.
Main reason for missing out on selection is that North have a bevy of strong young mids who are obviously considered better.
He's played 35 games in the firsts and based on his ranking in the 2020 draft could well reach his potential at another club.
Worth a look???

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Is he fast or slow ?
Is he a good disposer of the footy or is he a shanker ?
Is he a HBF trying to be a mid ?

Having LDU and Wardlaw ahead of you might be frustrating.
At Sandy his main counterpart might be H. Garcia. But that's also a fair bit of talent to get past.

Perhaps...St Kilda took Matthew Allison at 26 ahead of some better players:Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jun 2024 5:36pmCovid recruits are a bit like any movie made in 2020, not that good.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jun 2024 5:26pm Mentioned on TV last night that North Melbourne's # 3 draft pick in 2020, Will Phillips, can't get a game even though doing quite well in the seconds.

Vortex - I totally disagree . The Dry , starring great Saints fan Eric Bana, was released in 2020 and I reckon is an excellent movie. The recent sequel wasn’t too bad either.

I agree, with the exception of a few notables and accademy picks, it was a a really weak draftSanctorum wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jun 2024 12:56pmPerhaps...St Kilda took Matthew Allison at 26 ahead of some better players:Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jun 2024 5:36pmCovid recruits are a bit like any movie made in 2020, not that good.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jun 2024 5:26pm Mentioned on TV last night that North Melbourne's # 3 draft pick in 2020, Will Phillips, can't get a game even though doing quite well in the seconds.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Would like to strongly reiterate this point further in leiu of todays game. Zurhaar has gotta be close to the worse player in the legaue currently getting regular games, to think he's actively shopping himself around as a FA target is laughable. Needs to be delisted for north to move forward. Phillips the same, simply not AFL players.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jun 2024 1:10pm Complete dud. Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Am I right in saying Will Phillips was doing a good job on Nick Daicos until HT Kangaroos by 48
For some strange reason he was subbed off
Clarkson put his old mate Liam Sheils on Daicos who then went berserk and took over and won Collingwood the game?!
Clarkson - just show a coach without a good team is like a mule without a spinning wheel

Similar boat to Paddy Dow. I haven't seen him play but he is obviously not seen as a big part of their future plans.
If we can get him for a 3rd rounder or a depth Backman - straight swap for Cordy could be win win.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
He's averaging 3 kicks and 10 handballs (that's quite a lopsided ratio) ... and only 95 metres gained in his 4 games this year.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Don’t be fooled by the #3 draft number.
Not much chop to date at AFL level.
Another Dow IMO, vg at VFL level, C to D grade mid at AFL level.
Someone on here last week compared Dow to McLuggage, lol

Maybe Phillips, like The Dry, could be the exception to the rule, but 2020 was pretty lean for both good movies and the draft.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Most overrated stat ever!
It's a defenders stat.
How many average metres gained do you think Milne had over the journey?
I reckon Plugger's metres gained per game would have been less than his actual points contributed.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
The issue with the Covid draft is how much they missed not playing that season. Forget the number taken and expect an additional year or 2 to make assessments.
If you didn't pay much for him I wouldn't mind. We are likely losing Ross, Crouch, Jones, all potentially end of this year, so for the right price could be a good 16-25 player.
Is a great person also

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Would you rather Will Phillips or Seb Ross on the list next season
You need to have
Ryan Byrnes type 24-30 players on you list on minimum wage
Can’t have 30 Jack Sinclair’s

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Well, I can't access stats that far back, but Jeremy Cameron and Charlie Curnow are averaging 400 metres gained and 300 metres gained respectively this year.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 17 Jun 2024 10:09amMost overrated stat ever!

That's pretty good from key forwards.
You'd expect a good attacking midfielder do be doing around those metres gained, too ... or better.
I'm not sure if Will Phillips is that ... 98 metres gained is low for a midfielder.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
Both those players find themselves in defence quite often...Hence why it's a defender's stat.samoht wrote: ↑Mon 17 Jun 2024 4:16pmWell, I can't access stats that far back, but Jeremy Cameron and Charlie Curnow are averaging 400 metres gained and 300 metres gained respectively this year.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 17 Jun 2024 10:09amMost overrated stat ever!

If you're a midfielder then I'd expect you to be measured on possessions, disposal efficiency, clearances, tackles, and inside 50's.
It'd be great if you could kick the odd goal, too.
I don't know if Will Phillips is any good or not. TBH, North are a bit of an irrelevant club. I am sure they have good players, but very, very few of them would be in a position to show it.
A bit like us in the late 70's and most of the 80's.

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
His stats were actually better last year ... Phillips was averaging close to 19 possessions and 200 metres gained.
But his handball to kick ratio, even though it was better last year, it was still weighted more towards handballs. It doesn't sound like a player who takes the game on?
Anyway, 19 possessions was not bad for a 21 year old?

Re: Will Phillips anyone??
In 17 VFL games since 2021
Averaged 22.8 disposals
Over 50% are handballs
Had 25 vs Sandy and was their 2nd best player on the day
He’s definitely an in and under
With likely outs
Crouch, Ross and Jones at the end of the year we need replacements - they can’t all be draftees
I’d have a look at him
