I’m watching Swans v Cats
Swans are frightening…their skill and execution is sublime
The commentators just said “it’s like they can choose mid quarter the gears they want to use/go to and pull it off…sometimes fast …then slow ….rarely turning it over the whole time…
Cats doing a lot right but the class difference is obvious
We have a long long way to go we just do
But I feel confident that for the first time in a long time both the club Board and Footy Dept are on the same page and know this,
No more false dawns
No more top short cuts
I just want us not to get on a roll now and go ourselves out of top 5 pick
We need elite talent before Tassie come on line
It's handy when you can pick up someone like Chad Warner at pick 39. Not that we could have, our first pick was #52 - Ryan Byrnes.
So what would a smart club do?????
Pick up say Dalrymple …who built that list yeah?

Name the last pick in the top 10 we nailed?
Even Clark is at a make or break point of his career.
After the train wreck of the McCartin blunder, I will never trust the Saints in the draft.
If we can nab an elite and established mid with that pick via a trade, I say do it,
We need more than one elite mid from FA
The only way you do that is draft
So we need to do both
I’ll ask you a question
When was the last time Saints built a GF challenging list WITHOUT using top end talent from the draft ??????
Does that mean you don’t have to pick well?? Of course not
It’s why the club has stopped the rot and re-built the footy department

Drafting is recruiting like.any business
Resumes are prepared, read and scaled.
Once the recruitment is done the employees skills are put where they best fit. Short coming are upskilled.
Employees.need.to want to be developed.and coached. Some will some won't.
Some employees skills and personality won't suit the business
It is really important in drafting the teams pick players they can grow. Understand who will and who won't succeed in their environment.
Usually after.the top 10 draftees.there isn't much between the next 30 in skill level. Therefore understanding who will thrive is the key.
Are things on the improve? Perhaps. We struggled our way to a win over the 16th placed team and then struggled far more to defeat a middling team at Marvel: a game most pundits believe we only won because of a dud call by an umpire.
Come back to me after we beat the Lions at the Gabba and I might agree that things are looking up.
Anyway, I’m feeling a bit confused by some of the commentary on this thread. Do we want to win some more games and - extremely unlikely though it would be - still try to scrape into the finals like Carlton did last year? Or do we want to tank?

According to some on here when we lose its because we're hopeless and when we win we're equally hopeless and only win through extraordinary luck.
The negativity is getting quite tiresome.
Sticking the boots into Ross Lyon has become quite a trend, both on here and in the media.
We have a solid back half, we have a reasonably good front half, but a midfield that would rank last in the comp for sheer talent. It's time for people to stop heaping it on the club and it's coach.
We've taken steps to move this list forward, but the midfield is still lacking. That's why Dalrymple was brought in. Our previous recruiters hadn't drafted an A grade mid in 20 years.
You can kick Lyon as much as you like, but he can only do so much with a midfield that is workmanlike at best. No one wins a flag with that kind of midfield
And on Saturday night we played a team with a gun midfield. We won. And we won because the coaching strategy thwarted Gold Coast's highly talented mids.
There are some connection issues, for sure. There are also dumb decisions and unforced errors made by our players that can't be controlled from the coaches box.
Our new midfield group since the Eagles game will take another couple of weeks to develop some real synergy. The combination of Clark, Windhager, Steele, and Dow has only played two games together. Once they develop a better understanding, I think we'll see more cohesive ball movement from stoppages and through the middle.

The problem is Firey
I follow StK
And instead of being happy with being mediocre
I’m frustrated with
Style of football being played which is almost unwatchable
That’s fair enough but why do keep repeating yourself and bombarding us with your negativity
We get it.
Personally I enjoyed the game and realise our forward structure and a few other things need fixing but why bang on about it?
Do you think the club will take notice of your posts , do you think the club doesn’t recognise the problems you point out ?
Even vortex became tired of his own negative behaviour and has changed tack
We are 5-8 and sit 14th with a game style which is being ridiculed
Question
Why do half backs average nearly 40 against us?
Answer
Our forwards are sitting in our mid/defense stopping the opposition from scoring
Problem
We win the ball back - we have not enough players in front of the ball to kick to
It’s a flawed game plan and why we are unwatchable
Almost every club pushes their forwards up the ground to become part of the defensive structure.
The difference for us is we've struggled to score on the rebound this year. Not to effectively rebound- we've ended up with inside 50s, marks inside 50 and shots on goal which have been missed.
Recently our midfield has improved and we've actually won center clearances but haven't been able to convert them into goals.
It's interesting to me that you blame our players being up the ground but often I've found myself annoyed that often our forwards are playing from behind and looking for the cheap one out the back instead of playing in front/leading.
Disclaimer: posts are my views and shouldn't be taken as fact, even if I am in fact right.

For those that have watched the presser would’ve seen an honest appraisal of where we are by the coach , make no mistake this guy is switched on.
All the armchair experts on here are banging on about our Forward set up and inability to kick goals. Our coach knows this and is trying to work out ways to remedy it but he also highlights our improvement in other areas. I reckon he’s doing a bloody good job.
Near the end of the presser there are a few things there that curly should have a close look at

PS this thread won’t be liked by some on here who have the inability to let go their past grievances

And Sydney were worse than we are at the moment, this time last year. They needed a technical free in front of goal to beat North.
Their improvement this year, the recruitment of Grundy and the successful move of Heeney into the midfield.
So ...if you look at our ladder position, that's about right. There are some teams like GWS, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Carlton that don't have big numbers as far as inside 50 count, but they're very efficient once they get it in there.
Efficiency Data: We are second last for Goals per Inside 50. We are also 2nd last for ALL Scoring shots at goal per inside 50.
We are dead last for scores generated from our forward half. We are second last for scores generated from centre bounce...BUT
We are 4th for scores initiated from our defensive half (only Adelaide, GWS and Sydney score more per game than us from their defensive halves). They also have strengths in areas we don't

The same smart club that picked up Pelchen who ‘built’ hawks list
Or picked up Rath who was head of Hawks strategy
BM: "The club needs to change, what's got us here isn't working:
Club: Makes changes
BM: "You've made changes in the past this one is probably also wrong."
Yep this is it
Just a perennial whinger
Whatever the club does it’s shyte
Nothing as good as Marty could
It’s embarrassing
Time to find another club cause clearly this one’s drained any joy out of living you had

Make no mistake
We won Saturday because the coaching strategy out witted Damian Halfwit who admitted they couldn’t cope
Taking Miller out of the game was a masterpiece
We should’ve won by 5 goals if our spuds could kick to advantage in forward half

Will be a big test in Brisbane later in the week. Brisbane are a good team playing terribly in general. Would be a jog scalp for us
Would be a massive scalp for us, but I doubt we can hold them to 49 points. We need to find some goals. It will come, but maybe not for a little while yet.
On more than one occasion against GC hill and nas were gesturing to the forwards to lead at them and king and co were behind their opponent
.so they just bombed in ,happens alot and really noticable when you watch them live.another major issue is our forwards getting outmarked and not even halfing the contest to create a stoppage in our fwd 50 .thats half the problem the other problem is our skills not being able to execute basics skills under no pressure when we are moving the ball and untill that all changes we are going to continue to score.its got nothing to do with game plan bur our coaches do have a responsability to get every player on our list to improve their skills to an acceptable afl level.
