BM, hi, watched a bit of the VFL on a phone so not best perspective, however young Heath appeared a lot bigger than last year, seems a really big lad. Is that how it seems in the flesh? and
Is Allison a big unit?

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Just watched the replay of the last qtr (jet lag interrupted sleep)
Sharman looked a class above that qtr. His last goal was also a credit to work rate- he started the transition defensive side of the wing and then followed up to ultimately finish the play too.
He is the exact sort of player you don't want to lose patience with, still developing and has knack of showing up in key moments in otherwise quiet games. Turns 24 this year.
I'd give him a 1 year contract with a trigger for a 2nd if he can play more than 15 games.

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Sometimes a club needs to carry players like Sharman, who don't seem to do much, but are smart ball users and will take one or two crucial marks, kick a couple of goals when things are tight in a game. I just hope Lyon doesn't strangle him into being yet another defensive plodder, and I would play him over Membrey at every chance, with respect to Tim who I think is slightly off the boil at senior level.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jun 2024 1:46am Just watched the replay of the last qtr (jet lag interrupted sleep)

Heath played against a young and undersized VFL ruckman and beat him pretty easily
If Campbell played he would’ve broken a world record for hit outs

Yeah, I thought he was bog
He did beat up on a smaller opponent- as he should have - and the fact he did is a good sign
Played like a big man in wet conditions

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
I've just seen Phillipou's stats, in fact the 2nd best of the Sandy players behind Crouch and just ahead of Heath.
116 AF
26 disposals
14 kicks
12 handpasses
2 marks
13 tackles!
7 clearances
Coming along nicely.

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Phillipou needs to win more uncontested ball in transition
He relies a lot on stoppage clearances and runs from contest to contest
He needs to run to receive more
Crouch and Clark have been ball pigs in the last few weeks in the VFL
But have also presented as targets in transition
Phillipou needs to get uncontested ball, he’s not Matt Rowell

Someone thinks he is Matt Rowell.
Hopefully can add a ball winning string to his bow but should be putting his stoppage work into getting the ball in dangerous positions.

Someone (at the club, in selection, coaching, development) thinks he is a Matt Rowell type, because that's how they're playing him.
Re: Sandringham v Frankston
We are continually informed we have a problem with class midfielders.
Then when we attempt to develop an 18 year old as a midfielder the criticism comes.
Hmmm!!

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Build players to their strengths, it's simple.
If it's 50/50 or even 60/40 where their role is, play them where the club needs them the most.
I suspect we are trying to shoehorn Pou into an inside mid in a 20/80 shot.

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
It’s not about developing him as a mid that’s an issue - all for it
It’s how he plays as a mid
He does not win enough around the ground ball - I alluded as to why.

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
I wonder if the coaches think Pou might be a younger version of the Bont due to his height and left foot.
If so, he's the Bont you'd buy on Wish or Temu.
An inferior version dressed up.
Not bagging him, but he ain't got the tools yet and nobody can predict if he'll ever become a handy player

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Not meaning to be disrespectful, but
“Needs to win more uncontested ball in transition”
It may be that you position (noting you have an opponent because each side has 18 players on the field) to be an option in transition but uncontested ball in transition?
I know of Phillipou’s physical attributes, that he has quick hands, can mark and can kick
But in terms of pace therefore the ability to find space to be used ahead of a Sinclair or Wanganeen-Milera coming out of the back half looking at options, I do not have a read
No doubt the Coaching panel do so in them we trust
Winning plenty of the ball at the lower level will serve him and the Club well
Sport and performance always comes down to confidence including confidence in your team

Guys like Sharman are exactly the type of guys who turn Grand Finals. History is full of examples. He's worth holding on to.spert wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jun 2024 7:34amSometimes a club needs to carry players like Sharman, who don't seem to do much, but are smart ball users and will take one or two crucial marks, kick a couple of goals when things are tight in a game. Re: Sandringham v Frankston
What role do you see Sharman playing at AFL level?
He’s not a key forward - not big enough
He’s not a hybrid - not agile enough
He’s a medium kick mark player. Bit like Membrey but not as powerful.

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
He is pretty good as a forward at AFL level.
See last year's final.
The way he is used by us doesn't help him.
He looks less elegant than Fitch of Narrm but he is no weakling.
Membrey may be stronger but hardly more agile. Long time since Tim took a pack mark.
Pies would love Cooper right now.
This mission to rate guys against a super standard, for whatever reason, is silly. No runner matches Phar Lap, doesn't mean they all go to the knackery. A smart trainer places them well.
