..at the risk of positivity ..
Saints have (almost) a full list of players ..
We have a huge batch of home games ..
The majority of 'good teams' have got the heebie-geebies and lots of injuries ..
And I still reckon we've got a better list than last year ..

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
Let’s hope for a winning season from here on in.
That will make for a happier club and fans and give us the best chance of landing a good free agent(s). None of whom would be interested in coming to a basket-case club.
And yes, I understand the need to get games into kids. So long as they are up to the level, I think.

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
Winning is nice but 2 top 5 round draft picks and LDU would be nicer at this stage.

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
Basket cases don't get free agents. If they do they have to pay massive overs, which in turn disenfranchise current players.
Eg trying to pay $1.3m to Weitering and letting Battle go. For peanuts.

Saints paid overs for Hanneberry.
And chased Brad Hill, who has copped a lot of vitriol on social media directly from angry 'fans' who questioned his efforts.
Hope the club has learned a valuable lesson

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
I don’t see how we get 2 picks and LDU, seeing he is not out of contract so we would need to trade. North would be wanting a first as a starting point

Of course a few will make it but not necessarily those at the top end this year

If we get close to finals ..or if we make finals, that gives us a better chance of landing LDU
Why would he come to a club just for money? He'll get decent money if he stays at North or if he goes to another bottom 6 club...but does he want to be in rebuild mode for the next 3 years?

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
If we are this mediocre with a full list, and not much difference with 10+ on the injury list (some could argue better), that says a lot about our list from about 15 all the way through to 30ish.

It took some time to realise it, but Hill is the best thing to happen to the saints in the last 5 years. He is a great footy player but only as good as the role he is asked to play.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jun 2024 11:51pm

Sick of losing
Hope we win every game we possibly can this year and let the trade-draft situation look after itself.

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
I'm ok if we lose, but the selected team plays to the best of their ability. Our few bad losses this year have not been that way.
Tanking with poor performance is a culture killer. Tanking with selection and targeted development is not.
A good example is our lack of any wish to play a "close out" brand of footy at the end of games. We can learn that when it's really going to make a difference.

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
We're normally chasing to catch up on the scoreboard, so haven't had a chance to close out anything.
We haven't been comfortably in front except maybe the North match and also in the game against Collingwood we got 5 goals up early in the last.
We have the talent to play an exciting brand. Just need to put it all together. That's what will attract free agents and other players who want to move clubs

Sadly, too many fans expected Hill to magically transform a team of mediocre vanilla players into a top-4 side.Otiman wrote: ↑Tue 04 Jun 2024 1:04amIt took some time to realise it, but Hill is the best thing to happen to the saints in the last 5 years. He was a victim of Ratten's failures as much as anyone, but some targeted him the way Ross (Seb) has been criticised.
I put my hand up and say Seb is a loyal servant but his time is well and truly over

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
As long as we keep the injuries down to a minimum, I think we'll play much better football in the second half of the year. How many wins that equates to ......well, it's a mystery.
I think we'll see Wood, Henry, Wilson, Clark,Sinclair, Hill and Dow lift us out of our funk. We'll also get to see the value of having both Higgins and Butler playing together again.

We need a big finish, if we're any chance of landing a big fish or two.
We can have the biggest "war chest" in the league, but that won't matter if we're seen as a rabble!!

Re: ..at the risk of positivity ..
This isn't going to be popular but I wonder if trading Max King to bring in midfield recruits is the answer and put the development into Caminiti as out number one banana. Sometimes you have to be ruthless, Clarko did it when he first got to Hawthorn and it looks like Mitchell is doing it again at the Hawks.
We love our Messiahs though at St Kilda but I'm not sold on King as being a reliable asset.

Plausible, but I would make Sharman our number one bananaVortex wrote: ↑Tue 04 Jun 2024 12:01pm This isn't going to be popular but I wonder if trading Max King to bring in midfield recruits is the answer and put the development into Caminiti as out number one banana.
