If it was 2010 I would say Lyon is top coach, but here in 2024, he is a duck out of water and all the opposition coaches now know where he is coming from with his predictable setups and game style, and there's nowhere for Lyon to hide. No good blaming players etc etc.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 30 May 2024 1:23amIf it's only 1 player, of course not, but if McRae has a long career and if there's a handful of them...then that's not an accidentYorkeys wrote: ↑Thu 30 May 2024 12:56am Of course it's not Ross' job to develop apprentice or specialist coaches, is it.

Is it a coincidence that Leppitch, Voss, and McRae became senior coaches or that others like Lappin and Luke Power are assistant coaches?
Is it a coincidence that Luke Beveridge, Adam Simpson and Damien Hardwick won premiership and all had been assistants under Clarko ?...and also Leon Cameron (GWS Grand Final 2019).
It's odd isn't with Lyon. He finds it hard to keep good assistants and he hasn't had anyone under him that has become a senior coach. Strange after over 14 years as head coach?
Simon Lloyd lasted a while but is no longer a coach. Sumich was highly rated but had a falling out with Lyon. David Hale and Brett Kirk are still in the system and the only two I can think of who are assistants at clubland

Re: For the "In Ross we Trust" brigade
We were playing terrible footy at the back end of last year.
North and West Coast were getting slaughtered by the good sides ....I think they were in front for the majority of the game when we played them. We nearly lost to the 2 bottom teams on the ladder (remember that )
We were lucky that Essendon, Geelong and Richmond were tanking
The Bulldogs, and Freo had games where they lost to sides they should have easily beaten.
We did a Bradbury and Teffers reckons all credit to the master coach

Re: For the "In Ross we Trust" brigade
I was shocked when the club hired Ross Lyon and appalled in the way it happened but as we are stuck with him through the contract I decided to support him rather than relentlessly bag him. Roo along with other former players from his period and the media carried on like pork chops on how great he was and I believed he wants to be known as premiership coach so will do his best to win a flag, so I decided to suppress my impression that he is just a greedy psychopath who talks funny.
I fully supported him in his second life as our coach but am now starting to get the impression that he doesn't care how long it'll take for the rebuild and that the dollars earned are good enough to pay for the awkward media performances as he stretches the job out for as long as he can - just my impression at the moment, but if we win tonight I'll probably be more flowery towards him.

The worm wants to call me a gutter crawler
Good one slimeball. Like I said, it'll be fun riding the slippery dip of your emotions on the match day thread today
All of Ross's favourite players will be in his site, but Lyon will get off scot-free

Re: For the "In Ross we Trust" brigade
The set up at the start of the game was ridiculous
Playing players out of position
Bombs to McGovern and Barrass
No fkn wonder we were getting beaten at HT by a team that lost by 99 last week

Re: For the "In Ross we Trust" brigade
It's prety obvious BM would lead us to a premiership, but with typical saints irony he's an anonymous poster in a fan forum and we have ross lyon.
such is life.

Understandably RTB can’t take all the accolades but gee it would be nice to be able to give a tick without having to extrapolate
