Membrey
What was going on with him last week
In the twos?!
If a line was put through him, why is he back in?
If no line why was he running around in the magoos?
He’s not in great form, but I think at that point was leading the goal kicking. And is a better forward than Sharman and Caminiti but a fkn mile.
Either continue to blood or play to win?
It looks like we have a foot in both camps from one week to the next??!!
Btw
wtf is Crouch running around in the twos getting 35 touches whilst our AFL midfield is getting flogged?!

Selection has been fkn weird this season!
It’s like they keep changing their mind on the team they want and the direction they are going?!
Butler was fkn ordinary last week in the VFL and his attitude was s***
Why did he get rewarded?

This is just a guess, but when trying to work out what might be going on with Members I think it's important to remember how his season ended in 2023.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 30 May 2024 8:08pm What was going on with him last week

I'm just stoked he's playing footy and around the club and not too fussed about if he's in the seniors or not.
I think there's a bigger picture sometimes

Re: Membrey
I have to imagine that Membrey coming in coincides with with Coops going out as Lyon has always been a structure man.
Likewise Butler comes in for Collard.

Re: Membrey
Well I am concerned
He’s on half a mill to play footy for StK
Not run around in the magoos dominating - either play him or move past him
Same with Seb
And Jimmy
30 year old role players - that are far better than the young guys beneath them - but aren’t getting any better, nor will be a part of the next generation
Ie/ Seb head to head is far better than Hugo atm but who’s it more important to get games into
I think Seb - I am big on selection integrity- and picking players when they are ready and deserving
I’m not sure what Ross thinks - hence the “dual narrative”

According to Teflon ..It's all Jack Steele's fault
Should be stripped of the captaincy and be put up for trade at the end of the year

Re: Membrey
Honestly it's this.
Complain about selection integrity and then complain about an out of form forward being given a week in the twos to find some confidence and be replaced by an in form young player....

Re: Membrey
Who actually chairs the match committee these days ?
Does that role even exist because selection has been baffling this year.
Young kids getting promoted when they are clearly not ready , or holding their place in the seniors when they clearly don’t deserve to.
The development coach needs to take some responsibility here as well - he should have been calling for Pou to run around in the twos since Round 2. They allowed him to be destroyed by his opponent week in week out. It will take playing Pou at Sandy for at least 6 weeks to start to get his confidence and swagger back. Collard is another that just doesn’t deserve a senior game yet. Build his confidence by getting him hitting the scoreboard week in week out at Sandy. This so called fast tracking is actually detrimental to building their self belief.
This seems more like the year of exploration that RL promised last year. How many more of these years of exploration do we have to endure before we get to the year of actually trying to put our best available team on the park.
I hope Sos can bring in some experienced mids and small forwards this off season to make us look like an attractive destination club in 2026-27 whilst Dalrymple finds us six players in the next 2 drafts capable of playing 150+ games . Probably similar odds of me winning Powerball .

Steele is versatile, durable and has enormous strength while the other breakdowns easily and emits toxic gases.

Re: Membrey
Yup, couldn't agree more. Did people think that once Seb and Skunk were dropped once, we would have them finish the entire year in the VFL and then delist them? Especially when we're crying out for some on field leadership?
Playing poorly, getting dropped, finding form and getting selected again is the most normal thing possible.

Re: Membrey
It's a (seemingly) rare example of selection integrity down at the Saints, we should be celebrating it.

Re: Membrey
Is it normal to drop/manage 3 of your experienced players all at once?
Is it normal to keep a young player in the team after they've had a run of poor games like we did with Pou? Especially considering it is NOT normal for an 18 year old to play ALL home and away games.
It was normal to drop him several weeks ago...but...Is it normal to expect him to have suddenly regained his confidence after just 1 average performance at VFL level?
Phillipou produced nothing outstanding that announced he deserved a recall. Is it wise to create a situation where your highly prized number 10 draft pick starts feeling like he's a liability in the seniors?
I don't care if we lose games. I don't care if Membrey or Sebby or Zac Jones or Crouch are playing in the VFL..but I do care about the investment and development of our youth

Re: Membrey
Tim found form at Sandy and clearly is fit and uninjured, probably gained some confidence, so as an experienced player, gets a recall. Must say Butler looked off the pace last week, but clearly the small defensive forward role is failing, like most other things at the moment, and Butler knows how to play that role at least, and kick a couple of goals here and there.

Re: Membrey
Wouldn't be surprised if that's correct and been the plan for quite a while, it is crucial for St Kilda to land the best available midfield talent available in this year's draft.
And that's not just the senior coach acting independently, it will be the entire football operations team, assistant coaches etc, as well as the Board.
Andrew Bassat has made it clear ever since Ross Lyon was brought back in October 2022 that, following the end of season review, the club has prepared a comprehensive blueprint to make a determined effort to challenge for that elusive 2nd premiership in the next 4 years.
So afaic it doesn't bother me who is selected to play each week, that's for the people responsible to work out. Supporters are not privy to in-house discussions, nor owed an explanation about who is in or out, like for example Brad Crouch omitted the last two weeks.

No career best - but as a 2nd forward- not fkn atrocious!!
Would you like me to compare to Sharman and Caminiti or for that fact King?!
Getting a kick in our forward line - with the way we move the ball. Would be like opening that batting in March - in England- fkn hard work!
