Time to sit back and relax
Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.
Close your eyes and let it go. I know I have.
For the rest of 2024, sit on the couch and have a glass of red....or even a weak cup of tea.

I've been doing that for nearly 58 years, what's another 5 years matter.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I have foxtel so l can watch all saints games live.
I am seriously considering taping them it is not stressful watching once it’s a done result.
Last night I went out and got home to watch the last 10 mins….great.

That’s the thing we know it’s going to be a s*** show. We know the possibility of winning is so small. A big lotto win is a better chance.
But we still sit down in front of the Gogglebox or at the game and watch the disasters unfold. This is our lot.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
Despite our substantial investments, last night's performance indicates that the Saints are still far from a premiership. The club's future appears precarious, especially considering the significant resources poured into a dedicated ground, financial support, high draft picks, top-level coaching, and recruitment teams.
It is noticeable that the media coverage regarding the club needs to be more comprehensive, focusing on peripheral issues. Ross Lyon's post-match statement last week discussing runners was almost comical, highlighting the inability or unwillingness to address the core issue: poor performance. Thankfully, by contrast, last night's statement from Lyon kept pointing to "things left on the table," implying that players failed to capitalise on opportunities, i.e. poor performance. Lyon identified the midfield as a critical weakness by noting that the Dockers trounced us at the stoppages. He said the Dockers have worked on their midfield for the last eight years. Does this suggest we will need another eight years to get our midfield in order?
The club has developed and adopted a sound strategy, which has been implemented, but……. it hasn't worked! The alarm bells should be ringing at AFL headquarters.
The turnout at last night's game was dishearteningly low. The Saints are not seen as an attractive destination for players or supporters. In terms of recruitment, we seem to be stuck in the same place we were years ago, resorting to mentioning our 'war chest' to lure aging stars with underlying injury issues from other clubs who can spend their final playing years at the Saints.
So, what do we do? Merge with North? Never. Shut up shop and get a token logo on the back of Tassie's guernsey? No thanks.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
did people really believe after we appointed lyon to reshape our list of plodders and rejects we would turn into genuine contenders in less than four years? last year was a chance happening of a team that went into the season with fresh vigour. somehow we kept our place in finals as teams around us kept stumbling. our end season form was a far better indicator of what this season would bring. relax, have patience. enjoy the wins when they come. it ain't 1979 again.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
Lyon is not a rebuild coach - proved that at Freo
He did NOT come to StK to start a rebuild- he came to improve standards and coaching acumen to get more out of this list.
We got pick 18 last season
We got pick 10 the season before
That is not a club rebuilding

It’ll be a club trying to not fold in a few years.
You think North is bad. We are horrendous at everything.
Will be lucky to win 4 games in the next 3 years with this list.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
We need a complete rebuild of the midfield. We are the only team in the league that has no A grade midfielders and no obvious developing A grade midfielders. Most teams have 3 more in that category.
I think that'll be the main focus for Simon Dalrymple. In 20 years we have failed to draft a single A grade midfielder. That's just mind boggling

Re: Time to sit back and relax
if you don't think ross is taking a long term view you don't know footy. or you're simply blind to your bias.
all the game time given to kids that should be in the vfl is to fast track them. wins are secondary.
old ross rarely gave kids an opportunity, because we were a contender. best 22 for the here and now was his modus operandi. now he's about developing a team to become a contender. whether he can is another question entirely.

Yep, his approach is different this time around. He's well aware of the mediocrity of the senior talent on our list

Steele is clearly playing under duress. He is literally taking one for the team right now. When Clark and Crouch come back - hopefully next week, I imagine Steele will have to be managed. Rumour is his knee is hampering him.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
Two years ago when he was still in the media he didn't rate our list . He and the board are not going to admit we need a rebuild but that's what they're doing .
Last year we over achieved early , Ross would have been much happier with a lower first round pick , this year we're going to get it . I mean why rest Tim and Seb if not tanking , they could have made the difference last night .
Players will come back for the dees match but that's because their midfields is elite .
So next year a top four draft pick
Plus the war chest money to snaffle a big name player. ( not that anyone wants to come to us )
So that fast forwarding two years we are ready to be a GF contender.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
Where were you last season.
And it is not the same list.
Form and personnel changes, suspensions and injury have made it significantly different.
As has the butterfly wings effect of Bonnor's clangers.
Or sledgehammer blows of Bonnors clangers as it has turned out.
JS seems hampered by injury.
2024 Dougal Howard and 2024 Max King are pale replicas of 2023 models. Same same Sincs, NWM, Wood.

Re: Time to sit back and relax
The list is 80% the same
And a year more experienced
Every team has injuries and suspension
Squad mentality- you deal with that
