Never spend 10% of your cap on any player
Unless they are a consistent match winner in their prime
Weitering is a full back
He is worth 900k max
David King went off at Melbourne when they went all-in on May and Lever...He lamented that you don't invest big on key defenders.
Well he ate his words. I don't know what they paid the pair of them, but I suspect it was way more than the equivalent of 900k (inflation adjusted) at the time.
They did have the number 1 ruckman in the comp at the time and a pretty good developing midfield to go with it.
But they've always had forward issues.
With their injury list, who constituted the Hawthorn attack?
Noting Hawthorn won the game by only 5 points
So that is one game against a lower ranking Club
And what happened when we played the Western Bulldogs, a team with variable form
The challenging sides do not rely on one KPP sized player in their attacking 6
We have the very competent Howard at 199cm but absent the weight of May then Battle (193cm) then Wilkie (191cm), both midfield size
Yes, they perform most admirably but, given another KPP sized (and class) defender can Battle and Wilkie become more proactive not matched against players of greater size and at least equal ability?
Then you get to our need to push Marshall back - so you cause problems for other sides by Marshall pushing forward
Having contributed that, the deployment of Keeler is of interest and given what he has shown over recent weeks no doubt his name is being mentioned - along with Schoenmaker who missed with concussion last week (and this?)
Fmd I should have called myself Scollo. Would stop every one confusing my nickname with a mollusk.

Weitering would slot in nicely, but I'm almost certain they're not doing this because they expect to get Weitering. Up their salary cap, force them to release some mids, and at the same time show everyone we're cashed up enough to be putting out offers like that.
Sam McClure.
Source?
Credibility?
Informal? means I can make up stuff. Allegedly, reportedly, it is understood, an anonymous source reported......
Wow look at the reaction on Saintsational, those fans are ........lol. If only the rest of AFL news readers were so gullible.
Yeah f*** Carlton. Split their list up. Are they still using brown paper bags?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
1.5m does not necessarily overly damage the salary cap but it does set a precedent. If I was 2 times All Australians Sinclair or Steele you would be asking where is my 1.5m. Every player on the list would expect more than they are getting now as the club shows they are willing to throw Money around. Forgetting the fact that it is throwing 1.5m at a defender the one area of our game that is working. Though targeting a defender does sound like Ross. We could go from restricting sides to 10 goals a game to only 8, won't we be fun to watch.
The only way I see this in any way making sense as a story with legs is if we are pushing the price for KPDs in the hope that Battle gets offered a grandfather deal so we get first band compensation.

We won't split their list up it will split ours. They won't match 1.5m because the number is crazy. They will however expect us to give them our first and second round draft picks this year and next year.
Carlton can say we cannot match 1.5m because we have a salary structure in place and that would blow it up. We however would be saying we have no salary structure we are just throwing out hail Mary's.
Only had to start speculation he might come to Saints and he injured himself.
Bit fragile for the large lump he is?
Has to be a beat up.
Anyway, two Carlton hand me downs is enough for present, don't you think.
Although Dow should scrub up nicely.
The real pont to this whole Weitering exercise is announcing ourselves to the AFL players group to say .... hey we have salary cap space and are ready to spend.
What difference would Weitering make, once he booted it out of D50 it would come hurtling straight back in, you don't need to spend $1.5 mil for that shite.
You can get that for about $500k.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
