Changes for Freo
Dow, Jones, Sharman ... all in
Hastie Garcia Membrey ... out
Sharman to play forward and fkn leave him there ... can't be any worse than Membrey was today
The other 2 changes are no brainers for midfield grunt

Re: Changes for Freo
The outs SHOULD be:-
Membrey
Ross
Steele
Stocker
Webster
Because they are all ineffectual, slow and can not be deployed to alternate positions when found out in the positions they occupy
AND, apart from Stocker, they represent our Senior core, a Senior core which is deficient in regards leading from the front on the field of play.

Re: Changes for Freo
Steele out?? That’s absolutely ridiculous. With any amount of outside run to capitalize on his contest work, he’d get the recognition he deserves this year. Still being tarnished in some supporters eyes by an injury-impacted year last year imo, but he’s been very good this year; we just lack weapons in there to benefit from his extraction work.

I am attracted to the idea of possibly dropping Seb and Jack Steele. Seb needs to sharpen his disposal skills, work on using his right without giving up goals and Jack has almost become the anti leader, courage notwithstanding. They plod doggedly while other teams mids are greased lightening. Hardly role models right now, with due respect to past glories.

We would be slaughtered at stoppages if that happens.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Sat 11 May 2024 7:09pm I am attracted to the idea of possibly dropping Seb and Jack Steele. A string of close losses?
Honourable losses we can quietly hum the song to.

Re: Changes for Freo
Dow, Clark, Pou, Paton, Sinclair, Owens, Higgins, Windhager, Henry, Crouch on one knee, anything but the current slow drip death by a thousand fumbles, high slow balls, handballing into space to oppo advantage...

Re: Changes for Freo
Dow, Clark, Crouch not ready, Higgins suspended, Henry no, Paton no, Pou no, Windhager already there, Sinclair already there. That only leaves Owens.
If you want Steele and Ross out, you need to say who you think comes in for them.
Re: Changes for Freo
Who comes in will (hopefully) be answered tomorrow - because the invitation is there
It has been said for a period of time that our midfield is one dimensional
And, apart from Crouch, that same midfield was on the park today and got absolutely smashed
We just do not give our forwards the advantage of 6/6/6 by winning a centre clearance and driving the ball into our forwards who are 1 on one
What does happen is that absent that ability to win a centre clearance the opposition drops numbers back also knowing that on the rebound we have slow players thru our midfield so plenty of space for the opposition to gun and run
Look at the goals scored against us today
And the only effective forward entries by us were Bonner to Membrey and Garcia to King (noting Hawthorn had players back)
It is also noted that generally the whistle has become redundant particularly in the ruck contest (noting they banned 2 up) where it is a grappling scrag and holding the ball where you can now be swung 360 degrees and it is play on
Then the restrictions on runners

Re: Changes for Freo
If the midfield clearances were as quoted, where was the run and gun from those numbers
When did a St Kilda player stream away from a clearance?
I cannot recall one

Re: Changes for Freo
Yes I think we can put a line through finals now, so it’s time to start working on the areas in which we must improve. Clearance midfield and forward line for a start.
Our clearance midfield is one-paced and one of the worst in the league. At least Dow and Jones would give us some sort of breakaway speed and strength and, in fact, the only times I thought we looked likely today was the few times Owens was involved in the clearances.
As for the forward line, we can’t continue to play King deep. Bombing it in to him is simply not the percentage play. Move him out to the old chf and get some goal-kickers in behind him. Whether that is Sharman or Jack Hayes or Caminiti I don’t know. We also need a small forward or two. Perhaps Collard gets a run as he seems to know where the goals are.
I thought Hawthorn was very good today. Didn’t allow us to get any run going and had us under pressure for virtually every possession throughout the match. We were lucky to get as close as we did. Never in it really

Re: Changes for Freo
Or poor execution? Overall stats were mostly in our favour except for one which was glaringly obvious - disposal efficiency 77.2% to 71.7%

Both
Our ball movement is painful- connection is terrible and poor skill errors don’t help
But the fact we don’t score and the opposition don’t indicates a defensive game style

Re: Changes for Freo
Why do they keep fumbling the ball?
It’s so bad that every time they get they ball, I wince and expect someone to just stuff up.
It’s a sign of lack of confidence and trust in your teammates.

Re: Changes for Freo
I am guessing perceived pressure for the fumbles but that's the problem right there .... its the mindset of being the hunter rather than being hunted .... all day it felt like the Hawks were hunting us rather than us hunting them
The players mindset has to change .... they aren't playing like we have nothing to lose and smashing in ... its this see ball get ball desire to win ball mentality that seems to be lacking ...that hard ruthless edge
We are easy pickings at the moment and the opposition know it
