Never read the Herald Sun, my views are totally the opposite of Andrew Bolt. However, I will obviously not get the answers to Yorkey's questions on here, so I will have to go and consult Auntie Fay.

Wow, making some assumptions there Scollop. You could not be more wrong. I think it may have gone over your head. Again.

Not sure of the translation

The opposite of

WOKE is ASLEEP

Prior to 1975, it was lawful in Australia to discriminate against people on the basis of race, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.

This was the racist country, with racist attitudes and racist laws that we grew up in.

Do you think changes made to racial vilification and discrimination laws have somehow disadvantaged you?

Do you think progress is bad for society and specifically, has it been good or bad for First Nations people and for the country as a whole?

1. Would you like to go back to the days when Muir and Winmar were vilified and abused for the colour of their skin?

2. If we accept indigenous players in our team, should we not respect their culture?

3. If you acknowledge Indigenous Round and the contribution that indigenous players have made in our great game, then doesn't it make sense that we celebrate and honour our own players?

4. Would you like to go a further step...BACKWARD....Would you prefer it if we did not recruit any indigenous players to St Kilda?

As an Australian with Indigenous heritage, I don't see this as tokenism.
This is a nod to the oldest living culture on the planet. It does no harm at all and raises awareness and, hopefully, breaks down ignorance.
I'd rather this, than nothing.

B.M makes a good point, but I think Sir Doug Nicholls Round is very important.

We need to move beyond the tokenism. Sure, you're not going to influence government policies and you're not going to 'fix problems', but you can have an impact on both the indigenous and non-indigenous community.

It's symbolic. It's important to be proud of your heritage and to enjoy the ceremonies. Its important to celebrate the occasion, and it's important to use SDNR to educate in a meaningful way.

I don't think there's ANY benefit in breaking down ignorance by continuing with semi naked indigenous people performing in the middle of the MCG. Especially if it's just a dance without any context or story.

Perhaps tell a story in dance with commentary or text across our screens which highlight an advanced society that survived and thrived with 100's of clans and 100's of languages and skills and bush medicine...etc

What if there was a demonstration of farming methods that date back 20,000 years. What if they described how aquaculture was being practiced a long time before TASSAL started doing it. What if they showed that indigenous people were involved in grain harvesting and grain storage...tool making and toys for their kids.

Change the perception. Change the stereotypical bigoted views.

Does every gesture have to benefit someone?
Is the role of the AFL or the St Kilda Football Club to come up with a solution to fix issues in our communities?
Everything is about slowly changing people's outlook.
Start with awareness. Get people realising that there were 60,000 years of culture before 1788. Get people recognising that.
Start with a step and go from there.

BTW, Does anybody miss Uluru being called Ayres Rock? No...But it did make us all realise that the rock was there long before William Gosse "discovered" it and named it after Henry Ayers.

No. We are the St Kilda Football Club...
But I don't have the issue with the name change for the SDNR.

I wonder if other clubs are having these discussions? Imagine the chardonnay and cheese platter brigade at Naarm. What outrage.

LOL - Maybe years ago when they were first called Naarm.

Those Bi laws were written long before the AFL corporatised, those by laws are nothing more than tokeniistic and ceremonial and these are not legally binding.

Amazing how many members think they have a vote that means something, if you want a vote that means something you have to buy sponsorship.
If what your saying is right we would of become the Southern Saints forty years ago but just maybe the founders of his club 151 yrs ago thought important desions should remine in hands of the membership not made by a president a CEO, uncle so and so or auntie so or so . So let me just say it again the only way you can change the name of the ST KILDA FOOTBALL CLUB is by a vote of members and long may it be so!
when was the last time you were across the constitution?

the most recent copy I have is the amendment from 8 February 2012.

Are you aware of how to get a copy of the current amendment?
Funny it's not on the club website isn't it lol , but those on here who were involved with keep the Saints at Moorabbin like Bruce Eva , Scott Goodings etc I'm sure would be able to shine more light on it then I can .But to repeat myself and I don't care the reason but WE SHOULD NEVER CHANGE OUR NAME WITH OUT A VOTE OF THE MEMBERSHIP
