Those Bi laws were written long before the AFL corporatised, those by laws are nothing more than tokeniistic and ceremonial and these are not legally binding.

Amazing how many members think they have a vote that means something, if you want a vote that means something you have to buy sponsorship.

If what your saying is right we would of become the Southern Saints forty years ago but just maybe the founders of his club 151 yrs ago thought important desions should remine in hands of the membership not made by a president a CEO, uncle so and so or auntie so or so . So let me just say it again the only way you can change the name of the ST KILDA FOOTBALL CLUB is by a vote of members and long may it be so!

Does this mean the cheer squad will have to chant 'Euro-Yroke'? Do the radio commentators have to say - what a great goal from Euro-Yroke? Euro-Yroke ... to me a woke-joke!

Hopefully this might go a long way to removng the curse placed on the club by John Kelly when he pointed the bone at the club for mot allowing Winmar to play in a pre-season NT Indigenous team v the Bummers

Please let it be so .... surely we have paid enough for our sins

I love this. Club doing a great job in these areas. Also love our indigenous boys. They are the players that often bring something just that little bit special on the big games

Lancy boy may get a crack this weekend..

The efforts to show respect and to recognise & acknowledge Indigenous people and the terrible effects of colonialism, dispossession and accompanying racism are good things.
However
When was St Kilda FC ever an Indigenous institution, when was it known by an indigenous name, what is the exact provenance of the temporary name (is it temporary?) now adopted, not just the contemporary source, the historical and tribal provenance. What impact if any does the name change and all that implies have on the welcome to country ceremonies, what were the original words and actions of a welcome ceremony held at the places now known as Moorabbin and Marvel Stadium. Were/are there any challenges to the new name from tribal descendants, are there any equally appropriate names? When does the new name apply and does it now have official and legal AKA status.
Beware these goodfaith gestures becoming superficial gimmicks?
All involved need to take a more studied and educational approach I like to suggest. Just announcing here is a new name for this week may be a bit banal if theAFL is not careful, I think.

But we did become the Southern Saints briefly in about 1986. What's the difference between then and now? And what's a bi law?

Bi laws or if you like rules that were made by the clubs founder's
Now as for the Southern Saints name , my understanding is that when the club left St Kilda and did the deal with Moorabbin City Council was that after 21yrs the name St Kilda would be dropped and replaced with Southern Saints .Now happy too be corrected but that's how I remember it

Wow there's some real snowflakes in here. It's a temporary, 2 week name change that at worst, means you learn a new word in another language.

And for the record, the club did do due diligence on the name change and its in the first paragraph on the announcement article:

"The adoption and translation of Euro-Yroke (pronounced yoo-roe yoo-roe-ck) for Sir Doug Nicholls Round was made possible with the assistance of Boon Wurrung Senior Elder N’arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs and Boon Wurrung Elder and language specialist Aunty Fay Muir."

For those who want more information on the origin of the name, it can be found here:

https://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/expl ... llam-signs

"St Kilda was known to the Yalukut Willam as Euro-Yroke or the grinding stone place where they sharpened their stone axes. These axes sharpened on St Kilda foreshore, were an essential tool used by Yalukut Willam men for cutting bark from trees for housing, canoes, shields and containers. Two such axes were excavated at Elwood in 1974."

You left out the bit about them taking your backyard

I mean you know...the AFL have to be careful with the local Indigenous mob who may have ancestors who resided on Moorabbin oval or its surrounds.

First it's a temporary St Kilda name change and next thing you know they'll be setting up camp in the carpark. Eddie Mabo anyone?

Fear mongering, ignorance and misinformation has no place in Sir Doug Nicholls Round. It's a wonderful celebration for our indigenous players....past and present

Never read the Herald Sun, my views are totally the opposite of Andrew Bolt. However, I will obviously not get the answers to Yorkey's questions on here, so I will have to go and consult Auntie Fay.

when was the last time you were across the constitution?

the most recent copy I have is the amendment from 8 February 2012.

Are you aware of how to get a copy of the current amendment?
