The thing that kills me is the lack of pressure.

Needed a run and must learn how to deal with a big grappling opponent. Needs to move around more and lead.

King and Pou need to pitch in for Batchelor's mob for a couple of weeks.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Yes, but he can't, so he won't. We need to hope that he doesn't go too bad and trade him for high draft pick to get a midfielder who is 196 cm tall.

I’m drinking a negroni
But on a side issue, maybe Max needs to cool his boots in the VFL for a week or two

Re: King ...out of form or
Someone nailed it with the no leading patterns. If he is in front the opposition gets a fist in. Too often he goes under 12 style from behind.
Worst thing is he is allergic to tackling or defensive pressure. 66 tackles in 75 games coming in today. C’mon, don’t give me this he is “23 years old”. Unless it’s on his terms he is bloody awful

and that's the bottom line

It's starting to get a bit of a Billings feel about it.
The most frustrating part is his lack of effort, intensity, energy and general demeanour.

Saw him lead run into space a dozen times, the kicking to him was abysmal. Hoping he not another wasted talent chewed up by poor coaching and development.

Yeah, you are probably right. It’s probably not his fault. It’s everyone else’s.SaintDippa wrote: ↑Sat 04 May 2024 9:09pm Saw him lead run into space a dozen times, the kicking to him was abysmal. Hoping he not another wasted talent chewed up by poor coaching and development.

Was insipid
His body language was woeful- disinterested
Worst game I’ve seen him play, can handle players not playing that well as long as effort is there - his body language is pathetic
Will not lead up to the footy

Re: King ...out of form or
I wonder if he's got the balance right outside footy and whether his attitude and energy reflect his personality.
What does the guy do in his private life? Is he studying? Does he have a girlfriend?
I don't want to know personal details. I'm not interested in gossip, but it's crucial that our development coaches and senior coach understand what's going on in his head.
Is he a happy guy who relishes the pressure or...
Maybe he can't handle the pressure. We should straight out ask him if he thinks he deserves the salary he's on?
Seriously...after 12 months of Anthony Caminiti on our list...I would prefer to keep him and trade Max out

Re: King ...out of form or
I'm very concerned about King.
I understand he has had injuries, an interupted season even a game or two is very difficult to get a consistent run.
Im wondering if thats his issue? Do injuries deflate his mojo ( confidence, mental fortitude...niggles that the physical issue you feel, even if its minor, could be a season ending injury if you push it) ??
Is it psychological? Falling short of his own/ others goals & ambitions ( no one wants to not be great)...
Whatever is going on its gotta be managed asap.
Any rubbish about him not being capable, too young, still emerging...
A player CANNOT have great, even amazing games if they're not genuinely good players.
But the inconsistency...why?
The injuries?
The psychological stress?
The weight of expectation...internal & external?
The shocking centre clearances, lack of midfield ball movement isnt an excuse...he gets many opportunities...
What the hell is going on?

Re: King ...out of form or
Whatever it is, he's a liability to team if he doesn't sort it out. 1 soft goal from dead in front from a free kick early in the game and then nothing
Caminiti kicked a goal last week. Match committee dropped him. He actually took 2 contested marks inside 50 last week as well.
King didn't take any contested marks inside 50 today. He doesn't lead often enough, so zero uncontested marks for the whole day.
He deserve a spell in the reserves.

Re: King ...out of form or
Every time the ball came towards him tonight it seemed to be on top of his head while he was wrestling.
I did see a few times he got out but the delivery was poor.
I don’t think we know how to use him.

Re: King ...out of form or
The best key forwards have an arrogance about them. They are killers.
Lockett dunstall Carey. Get out of my way. They demand the ball. Even the best Small forwards do it.
Name one top line forward - or player - that was a sook?
King is like a spoilt brat that sits in the corner waiting for Santa to arrive to award him star of the week.

I do struggle to visualise him scoring a goal in a grand final if St Kilda ever make it.aaron82 wrote: ↑Sat 04 May 2024 9:07pm Someone nailed it with the no leading patterns. If he is in front the opposition gets a fist in. Too often he goes under 12 style from behind.

He would need to have an opponent instructed to always zone off him.
Then he may not drop every marking opportunity.
But then he would only kick behinds.

Re: King ...out of form or
During the Covid games with no crowds, I remember him being a lot more physical and contesting more.
Or am I re-inventing the past?

Re: King ...out of form or
He’ll be fine
Early season he was going well - Pies looked good
He’s been interrupted since then and has barely strung consecutive games together
Yes I’d like to see him lead up like Larky did/does ….but we have a midfielder as our forwards coach…

Re: King ...out of form or
Who runs the show? Banger or RTB?
Does Max King do as he pleases and the team and the head coach devise all strategies around Max?
3 years ago it was Ratten's fault that King wasn't leading according to you
https://www.saintsational.net/viewtopic ... 0#p1959710
2 years ago it was Ratten's fault again and not the forwards coach or midfield coach's fault
https://www.saintsational.net/viewtopic ... 0#p1959710
Last year ...it was no ones fault but Max's. Last year you were implying that the team and the coaches should resign themselves to the fact that he won't lead; or he cant lead; or he doesn't like to lead
That's one hell of a highly paid decoy.King clearly likes contested marking has an aversion to leading that’s all good as long as we have other options..
