Re: Crab watch
Pelchen and Lethlean and Trout and Richo were all just looking to earn exhorbitant salaries at the expense of the St Kilda FC
They didn't deliberately screw up imo. They were just incompetent.
We're our own worst enemy. The evidence is overwhelming
We gave them the keys. We chose Alan Cho Richardson over Mark Choco Williams

Persuasive in the locker room you'd think. Bit harsh to criticise the club for wanting to free up salary cap by offloading a bystander.

Re: Crab watch
Billings had a reasonable game for three quarters last night, setting up a couple of goals and helping to save one or two in defence. But he also produced one of the worst set shots on goal that I have seen in a long, long time. He's lost all of his confidence when kicking on goal: he looks like someone who is being marched off to face a firing squad.
He was subbed off in the last for Bailey Laurie, who didn't do anything at all.
I reckon Goodwin wasn't very impressed with the shocking shot on goal. I suspect that, given that Melbourne won well, Billings might be on his way to the VFL for a while.
It was an exciting game.

Re: Crab watch
4 touches to half time is a disgraceful effort
Is getting some touches now… a further 7 so far in the third but no real impact

Re: Crab watch
Billings is, sorry to say, a dud and one of the most over-rated top 3 draft picks of all time. Will always stand by my comments. Don't care to watch him.
However, whenever I do watch Melbourne my heart sinks watching Petracca who is an out and out gun.
How on earth did we miss on one of the most powerful, skilful and gutsy midfielders the game has seen? He was and is the player we have been crying out for and we blew it.

And the thing is Petracca is a better forward than McFartin.

Re: Crab watch
Sure is. Petracca alone would improve our midfield no end and also straighten us up a lot more, which we are badly in need of.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Thu 09 May 2024 11:19pm And the thing is Petracca is a better forward than McFartin.
He was absolutely brilliant tonight.

Re: Crab watch
I totally agree with you saintkid about Billings what did our recruiters see in Billings only holding his spot at Melb until Spargo and Melksham return.
No where near good enough to tie Petracca or Bontempelli boot laces who we missed out on.
BOOM BOOM

Re: Crab watch
Why is he compared to two of the greatest players in this generation?
Why isn’t he just compared to other HFs
Ie, compare him to ours?!

As well as considering the lack of advancement that Bont and Trac would most likely have made at St Kilda

And then WE did not develop him.

Re: Crab watch
Windsor is not playing on the wing
In any event, have you actually watched what Billings is doing or are you just counting his possessions? Last night his second half was serviceable in that he managed to accumulate some good possessions. He laid some good tackles which was great to see one of which was crucial. But there were times when he got possession of the ball and the Dee’s needed him to deliver it when there were no clear options. That’s supposed to be his specialty. That’s what Nas is good for. That’s what Nathan Buckley was good for. That’s what Zach Merritt is good for . Every time you need Billings to give you something a bit extra he just can’t do it. He’s a 16th to 22nd player at the Demons. When he was at the saints we needed him to be a one to 10 player, he just couldn’t fulfil that .

Re: Crab watch
He is what he is
Why is he compared to those player
A lt of our best players don’t compare favourably to those you mentioned
What’s interesting
Billings can be best 18 in a very good team
But last season he was being kept out of a finals team by a first year kid averaging 4 kicks per game.

Re: Crab watch
For me it wasn’t so much his draft selection 10 years earlier or whenever it was, but more to do with the salary that we were paying the likes of him and Gresham . All that does is stifle the list if they’re not performing. My understanding was he was on $600,000 a year, he’s not a 600k player a year, more of 400 K player. Your last point has some merit because as you would be aware, I agree that pou should’ve been dropped last year. I can only assume that lyon didn’t believe that Billings was taking us anywhere and it was worth persevering with the pou.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 10 May 2024 5:07pm He is what he is

Re: Crab watch
Really?
Let's have a look at his 3rd quarter. Game on the line and most Melbourne players realise they need to lift
Billings gets 8 touches at 38% disposal efficiency
Its not like they were mostly contested wins of the footy either. 1 contested and 7 uncontested.
75% in the defensive half...but here's the killer...due to his inability to handle heat he constantly gives up the footy with 5 turnovers
That's just in the 3rd quarter
Yeah...nah... acceptable my ringhole!!

He will do well there. He has a point to prove and will show us up as poor judges of talent.
