Higgins Alir incident

Post: # 2055476Post King Max »

Nothing from the MRO yet but everyone saying he’s likely to be offered a week or two.

It should be challenged.

Higgins is dragging him to ground. Not slinging him. There is no sense that his other arm is driving him to the ground. Alir chooses to lift his standing leg so that his other leg can swing at the ball. Which is what gives his head so much momentum.
Alir does have a free arm but he’s trying to release the ball rather than protect himself. And he wouldn’t have to protect himself if he dropped the ball on his boot immediately.

The fact that alir went off and stayed off doesn’t help

I'm watching North vs Crows on Kayo

Fox Footy now saying he could be given 3 weeks because Allir was concussed

Apart from the fact that other dangerous tackles recently only received 1 week (and in the case of Charlie Cameron he got off for being a good bloke)...we need to argue that Allir contributed to whacking his head

Allir decided to NOT plant both his feet and NOT stay upright.

It's not a smart idea trying to do a standing up somersault at the best of times.

Try kicking a footy while you're virtually stationary. It basically flips your body.

Allir was trying to kick the football while a player had a hold of his arm. It's basically like someone trying to do a cartwheel in the air while your holding him and pulling his whole body to the ground.

How is Higgins meant to know that Allir is going to attempt to kick it while he's tackling him? Higgins is smaller and lighter than Allir. He doesn't lift Allir or control what Allir is doing.

It's an accidental concussion and not a malicious sling tackle

St Kilda fans are sick and tired of getting screwed by the footy world.

Higgins doesn't deserve 3 weeks for an accident that he had no control over.

If Allir handballs. His upper body weight doesn't do what it did. His head probably wouldn't have hit the ground

No good bloke clause for Higgins because he wears a St Kilda jumper.

Steven Baker -- 9 weeks.

Thought it would maybe get a week but shocked to see it got 3 (and that's coming from someone who is very in favour of adjudicating more toughly on concussion prone actions).

I think we appeal and make a case that Aliir's kicking action midair contributed to the severity, and I hope it gets downgraded. I don't believe Higgins had any intention or even control over laying a dangerous tackle in that situation

The AFL is F######.
I love my football however increasingly getting so disillusioned by the game i.e umpiring rule changes and Gestapo running the game. How good were the good old days.
AFL clearly have it in their sights which teams they want in finals. 28-8 free kicks last night absolute joke.
Cameron gets let off because he is a good bloke pfft Just my two bobs worth .

I don't agree with what the shock jocks say, but he could get 1 to 2 week. I am hoping the club can put a good case for a fine

The simple fact is that St Kilda have no relevance to the AFL apart from making up the numbers for broadcast rights

The AFL give favour to sides with influential financial backers and large supporter numbers

Apart from that they give favour to Interstate sides to maintain an interest in the National competition

In terms of a “social conscience”, St Kilda find themselves the whipping boy of the AFL, made an example of whatever the issue of the day is (currently concussion)

What I would suggest is that instead of venting on sites such as this you go to the AFL site and email them raising the most obvious questions

And accusing them of being corrupt

The very fact that Clubs and their personnel are prohibited from commenting on the AFL, leading to the oblique references Lyon has made on St Kilda’s behalf is its own commentary

Then you get to media and their screeching heads (including females!!) who, at the end of the day must surely turn people off

Since when did they introduce 3 weeks for this sort of thing. Was Higgins meant to run the other way?
What a load of crap these rules are. Why does Cameron get off. There is now a precedent!

Higgins didn't mean it and he's a nice person so that should get him off.

I believe we can mount a good case that Alir contributed to his injury by attempting to kick the ball and taking his feet off the ground.
Of he had just stood there, he wouldn't have got injured and the result would have been a ball up.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

He did
And unfortunately his history has shown he's a jelly brain , every team has a few , and if you tackle them hard you risk costing yourself time on the side lines.
Higgins should know this , he's one of ours .

Absolute disgrace. But fully expected. Saints have no media bullies therefore get done.

The AFL need to change the interpretation of holding the ball. Frees for holding the ball are only paid once the ball is dead. The tackler needs to pull the player to the ground and kill the contest.
If the tackler doesn't pull them to the ground they can pirouette them 4 times and let the opponent handball and it is play on.
The only way to get the free is to pull them to the ground. Pull them too hard and they get weeks on the sideline.
