Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
So we are now 2 - 5 and we have played 6 games against top 9 sides on the current ladder and lost 4 of them by 1, 7, 8 & 10 and played 3 interstate matches with a huge injury list
Now we start to get some players back and the fixture becomes a little easier for us
So who is in .... and who is out? ....and I ain't talking about players

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
I thought the umpire were shockingly inconsistent , it’s just that the 50/50 debatable frees Port seemed to get more paid their way.
I’d like to see the afl actually look at a full game and explain the holding the ball/ dropping the ball rule, I don’t think I’m that dumb but it’s got me buggared.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
Kidding ourselves if we blame umpires for last night. Sick of excuses. I have supported the Saints for 41 years and am tired of accepting rubbish performances. We were ordinary last night, awful the week prior and anyone who watched the Giants game knows the scoreline flattered us.
Get rid of 'Cuddly Ross' and set clear standards - put the following items on the whiteboard as it feels like it's been the same issues for at least 7 years across three separate coaches that have not been rectified:
- Learn how to kick and hit 30/40m targets consistently, we rarely give our forwards a chance with the delivery.
- Having said that, forwards need to play and stay in front of their opponent - reckon they took double the amount of marks inside our forward 50 than we did last night and that is unacceptable.
- Hold your bloody tackles, aside from Steele, opposition just run through us too often.
- We only have three consistently reliable performers - Steele, Wilkie and Marshall. Sinclair and Battle not too far behind. The rest are a lottery week to week - those players need help if we're ever going to threaten anything.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
The AFL forbids coaches commenting on the quality of the umpiring.
That answer was Lyon's way of emphasising the disparity and bias of the umpiring.
He knew the stats and he knew that two bad umpiring decisions resulted in two Port Adelaide goals in the last quarter.
But he is not even allowed to mention them.
He knows he has to manage the manageables which is the players performance.

Correct Ace
Then the reference to the draw and preparation
The compromised and corrupt AFL, dictated to as it is and feeding the incompetent media as it does, dictates that no employee or any employee of a member Club will question it or its operatives including umpires, umpires who, as we saw last night are just not up to the task, influenced by "name" players versus unknown kids and influenced by crowd noise from a feral audience
And the AFL requirement in regard publicity

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
Will the AFL, for the second week running, actually fess up that they delivered the result in a game?

Clearly he meant 2nd or 3rd game player. You’re just looking for reasons to call him out. And this bulls*** about him not giving a f* is just ridiculous

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
He came on at three quarter time but his stats show 19% time on ground.
That means he spend a quarter of the final term on the bench.
As the sub he should have spent the whole quarter on the ground.
Injury would account for the lost time.
The only other possibilities are disciplinary action or opponent beating him badly.

Both games were similar, -10 in scoring shots, difference was last week the Dogs kicked straight and last night Port didn’t.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Sat 27 Apr 2024 1:36amHave you not been paying attention.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 27 Apr 2024 12:18am The only people that think he is the messiah
Hopeful supporters and dumbarse media
I keep telling you
The coach is not the answer!!!! It’s good to have a decent one
But give me good players over a good coach anyday
People just want to believe it is to give them hope when a coach is sacked!
Two years ago tonight's scenario would have been a 70 point shellacking.
The guys play for Ross. He proactively coaches.
Last week 10 goal drubbing. This week could have won in Adelaide v top 4 side. Same players as the week before.
Credit where due, eh.

There's ways you can tackle that question Ace as other coaches have shown. His answer was insipid like some of his baffling selection decisions so far this year.ace wrote: ↑Sat 27 Apr 2024 9:23amThe AFL forbids coaches commenting on the quality of the umpiring.

How do you measure a coaches performance?
Win/Loss?
Premierships?
Great coaches are nothing without quality players, whereas quality players can still dominate regardless of the coach!

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
look we all know the afl isn't a fair dinkum sporting body. it's a provider of entertainment. maximising revenue is its first concern, not ensuring a fair sports competition. And you maximise revenue, just as in other so called sports, like the wwf, by promoting those teams/characters that draw numbers. You give them the big games, the easy draw to assist in finals, the promotion, and you handicap the smaller teams, not necessarily deliberately, but by the fact they get accomodated around the bigger clubs' needs and the desire to increase revenue. the umps are quite aware of this. everyone bar blind freddy is. so of course there is a psychological impact on umpires to follow a story, even if only subconsciously. it delivered collingwood their fairytale flag last year. assisted by the umps in their final two games when fair umpiring would have seen them not even make the final.
that is the afl. if we support it then we accept it. however grudgingly. the reality is we follow a lower light character in this charade whose role is that of a loser. accept the script or find a different form of entertainment. occassionally the loser gets a chance of redemption. and we wait for that day.
