We need to go in thinking we are 30pts not 10pts down. It needs that much of a turnaround in the second half to win it.meher baba wrote: ↑Fri 26 Apr 2024 9:53pm You're all so critical. But 10 points down at half time is far better than I had envisaged at the start of the game.
Be clean with the ball and some contested marks and we are on top.

If umpires cannot adjudicate incorrect disposal then it's time to get rid of the rule. Tackles where the ball comes out being called play on, players throwing the ball over their heads like seasoned boundary umpires. The game is dying a slow death under the belief it needs to speed up.

It’s still got 60 written all over it if Port clean up the play a little more. Downgraded from 100+ due to inaccuracy.meher baba wrote: ↑Fri 26 Apr 2024 9:53pm You're all so critical. But 10 points down at half time is far better than I had envisaged at the start of the game.
Should have been 40+ margin at qtr time.

Sub Howard off!

For a big bloke, footsteps Howard avoids physical contact and is afraid to hit the ball hard and turns it over with weak efforts. Play him in the forward line and tell him to smash into packs, coz he’s petrified in defence.

Not wrong. With 2-3 better players fielded we would be right in it, hardly making Port look top 8 let alone top 4meher baba wrote: ↑Fri 26 Apr 2024 9:53pm You're all so critical. But 10 points down at half time is far better than I had envisaged at the start of the game.
But we are making very basic fundamental skill errors and it's somewhat lucky Port haven't capitalised.

Really?skeptic wrote: ↑Fri 26 Apr 2024 9:55pm I gotta say… really impressed with young Caminati tonight. Presented and locked dangerous.
Our forward line in general is a bit of a shambles with King, Caminati, Coops and Membrey being too tall and all over each other.
Seems to me that Caminati is the most competitive of the bunch but he seems incompatible with King. We need to figure that out.
Coops looks completely devoid of confidence atm and Membrey ain’t crash hot.
Dougal needs significant discipline- needs to aim to achieve basic fundamentals
I think he’s looked quite ordinary unless the ball falls in his lap.
And his second efforts make King look like Lenny Hayes!

I saw a stat on 'scores against'cwrcyn wrote: ↑Fri 26 Apr 2024 9:54pm On the positive side we're keeping their midfield honest. Garcia doing a good job on Butters so far.
Wilson has been very good. Hill had a good first quarter.
Sharman needs to lift. He lacks attack on the ball and the player. He's had some disappointing efforts in recent weeks. With King out, he really needs to go harder.
We're playing just okay and we can play a lot better than this, but to be within 10 points at half time is something I would have taken pre game. Red time goals against us have been an issue all season
after 20 min mark of each qtr.
We're #3 for lowest scores conceded, strangely. It will change after tonight though.

He's been pretty dreadful all season. Surely he comes out next week when we have more players back.

Don't think he or Membrey play next week unless things change.
Need to be smaller up forward anyway.

Howard, Sharman and Byrnes need to be dropped and will be eventually.

Not happy with Sharman at all! He has been terrible for a few weeks now and definitely needs a spell - I'd sub him out for Hastie

Higgins definitely the subject of a solid debate this week. No doubt gets weeks with a Geelong or Collingwood player getting off next week for the same thing.

Steele and Ross need a rocket at half time- just jogging and not hitting the contest hard enough around stoppages.

He’s no good either. Slow, soft, doesn’t give a solid contest in the air. Not tall enough or strong enough to be a genuine forward.
Dare I say it. List clogger. There’s generally a reason why someone isnt drafted at 18 and slips through

He never rips it.
He can still be hard, but instead he squibs it. He’s not a backman’s ring piece. He’s a sulking waste of space.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
the fact we are still in this is incredible. Young guys are doing well and Wilson looks class, really looking forward to him getting a bit bigger and dominating thru the middle. Polo doing a few nice things as well. Need the older guys to lift. Sinclair better than last week but that isn't saying much and Membry hasn't done a lot yet. But we still have another half so fingers crossed
