Excuses
Farken sick of them
Even the club, the coach make them
Ever since I’ve supported StK there has always been excuses for mediocrity
Can’t win in Tassie - Hawthorn did
Can’t win in NZ - teams that beat us could
Can’t win interstate - good teams do
Can’t win in China - Port did
Can’t win in prime time - again, good teams do
Can’t win on Good Friday - not sure why
We have injuries - like everyone else
We have poor time slots - deservedly so
Umpires killed us - Richmond have by far the worse free kick differential and they won 3 flags
Fixture - we get relatively easy draws
Coach is no good - cop out
Face up to reality- then and only then can we be successful. There is systemic failure at StK
Only person I’ve ever heard admit it - GT
Alcoholics can only get better if they admit they have a problem
We have a farken problem- and excuses in a press conference is exactly what allow it!
Fix the fkn loser culture - and we might see success
Until then - we are irrelevant

Re: Excuses
These 2 lines make it sound like you are implying that our Coach was manifesting our alleged "loser culture" last night after the game. Is this right?
If so, did he possess that loser culture in 2009 & 2010?

I’d rather have ruthless Ross, than cuddly Ross. Being the players’ best friend won’t work. They don’t have to like him.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 5:45pm Farken sick of them

Re: Excuses
I think Ross is giving reasons/excuses because he knows what fans don’t want to accept. At the moment we are not that good, so rather than just come out and say that and lose commercial support and interest, he takes on the excuses that are suggested to him in the press conferences. I think he knows that if we match what we did last year we have done reasonably well, then keep bringing in more talent.

Re: Excuses
Wasn’t there a post match mid last year or so when we were on our big losing streak where he said this team isn’t good enough for finals and players need a clean out etc.amusingname wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 6:44pm I think Ross is giving reasons/excuses because he knows what fans don’t want to accept. Then we ended up making finals and everyone kind of forgot and since then he’s been pretty media spin about the whole thing. It was like for one week he said what he felt and maybe got told to rein it in a little and since then it’s been kind of hard to get a beat on how much of what he’s saying is tongue in cheek, or platitudes, or just winding up the media.
I think this was the one I was thinking of

Re: Excuses
Ok, don't like it and have the skepticism of the ignorant, but will grudgingly accept the physiological reason. However...
Why does Marshal, very early, have to kick a perfect pass to the Dogs for a walk in end to end goal instead of hitting a target e.g. a player clear and well in range or just kicking a chaos ball. Dumb or can't kick?
Why did Membrey play behind a guy taller than him and with better reflexes. Unsighted until it really didn't matter.
So on reflection I see the reason for a general malaise but don't understand basic craft nonsense from senior players. I worry Tim is only a down hill runner.

Drop them?
Or...Coach them better?
What's your solution?

Re: Excuses
Need to stop accepting mediocrity and start demanding excellence.
Become ruthless.
Become ruthless.

Ever heard the saying “short term pain for long term gain”?

Re: Excuses
The pitchfork mob on here are running through the village again
We have a lot of senior players out
We've had two five day breaks in 5 weeks
We have one stinking loss, and once again the froth spews forth from their mouths in incandescent rage.
Never ending anger and negativity
Tiresome and predictable

Re: Excuses
I have another, more a deflection really, no matter how bad Thursday night was we are still well better than North and the Hawks. Case studies in how rebuilding is an adjective not a verb.

Re: Excuses
As devastated as I am over that last game, I’m not sure I will get over it in a short period of time but I still have faith in Ross turning this around and setting us up for good times ahead
Their are some here who have lost faith in his ability quoting childish inane crap like “magic wands etc”
That’s ok some find it difficult to appreciate or comprehend a positive position …there are plenty who can.

Re: Excuses
Reasons are not excuses
Reasons are what needs to be worked on - and that includes getting more of our key players back on the park and playing well
It is noted that post the injury to their talented key defender GWS have fallen in a hole - including late in the game against us
One played, a key player can make a difference
We have a side which includes the likes of Wanganeen-Milera, Owens, Windhager, Phillipou, Wilson and Garcia - so 25% of our side - and absent the leadership of our Senior players who are on the injured list
St Kilda’s record is what it is - just the one premiership
There are historical reasons from what I have been told - principally the financial circumstances of the Club
From the inner sanctum some number of years ago now there just were not the donors compared to what you saw at other Clubs and particularly the Clubs which dominated the competition
Only 1 side of 18 wins a flag any year - so you need all things going for you including having your best players consistently on the ground

Re: Excuses
IF some venting have had their fill of St Kilda and just the one premiership (so history), aligned to the position of the Club on the premiership ladder in 2024 then I suggest they change shift their support to who they think will win the 2024 flag, then change again in 2025 on the same criteria
Then they will be satisfied
In the meantime St Kilda are an football club competing in the AFL - and to supporters provide entertainment
It is not life and death
It is entertainment
As is the social discourse over the performance of the side/s St Kilda put on the park each and every week across the season
Someone wins
Someone loses
You assess the reasons for both - and work on improvement
We currently have kids filling a quarter of our side
Their progress is the future

Re: Excuses
I just wish people on here would pull their heads in ffs we lost all games under 10 points with a lot of kids except for this one, which I knew was coming given the draw and I just wonder for all you heroes in that age bracket would have coped with that scrap draw ,so to all you keyboard warriors kiss my ass
