Wah wah wah
Some are crying, 'look what we've become'; 'had to walk out it was so bad"....I've been to sooooo many worse Saints games.
Sure this was a big disappointment.
You ever see a Saints forward at Morrabin literally trot off and say he was still drunk from the night before whilst we get hammered for 40-75pt losses week in week out?
Its different now, sure...we all have hopes I get it.
When you pull on the Red White & Black you acknowledge you are keen to get kicked in the sweets each & every week...off season included AND you line up excited for your weekly beat down.
We love the club, but we do take our lumps...
Just in the past 4 yrs...surely you don't forget R10 2021?
Bulldogs 144
Saints 33
Hell, I can name many more if you think a 60 pt loss blows your hair back....if it does, probably best to move along...I heard Collingwood are open to bandwagon riders...
if youre keen to stick about, buckle up, its fine to crack the sads...that's part of it, but ya ramp up the hope for next week like a moron & we all happily sing along.
Worst game ever rubbish...some people...

In all seriousness you can’t underestimate the 4 day breaks and the inexperience in our team. We’re on for the long game once again and people (justifiably so) are unhappy about that

Providing we recruit wisely through the draft and puck up some quality players through trade and free agency.
The last 10 years we have wasted draft picks and made some terrible trades and recruitment.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Agree.
Couldn't go or watch the game live so watched replay a short time ago - masochist.
Based on what I had read here, expected something truly horrible, only to find that the damage was inflicted in two bursts, aided by exceptional set shot kicking and a bad run with the umps.
Don't get me wrong, any 10 goal defeat is unacceptable but have seen much, much worse over the journey.

Re: Wah wah wah
There's a host of past and present reasons for our most recent capitulation.
I do hold hope that changes in governance, coaching and player acquisition, development and retention strategy will lead to an era of top 4 play and a Granny!
But I thoroughly expect to get thrashed a bit more before this happens due to short recovery times, injuries, youth player development, poor implenting of new strategies due to lack of skill, physicla weariness, lack of talent ( threw that in there for the laughs).

And people get offended when you point out how some fans and the club are happy to accept mediocrity!

Re: Wah wah wah
Great post! Spot on - I remember in the 70s being at Princes Park one day and hearing from (someone at the club) tell my old man that (insert player's name here) had been drinking all night.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 4:12pm Some are crying, 'look what we've become'; 'had to walk out it was so bad"....I've been to sooooo many worse Saints games.

I also remember a game against a bitter rival at the MCG in the 90s when my mate who was friends with (insert player's name here) told me that a group of the players had won a lot of money on (tattslotto/horse race) and had gotten absolutely blotto the night before and we lost the game by 15 goals. And we played like it too.
But as for St. Kilda barrackers saying that the game Thursday night was the worst they had seen for fifteen years or something, well, I have personally seen two games the same as that against the Dogs since 2021, and two against Essendon in the same time.
And that doesn't even include games against Port in China and whatnot.
The things is we are quick to blame the coach for lack of standards, selection, etc. There is an element of personal responsibility here that the players have to take. I was glad that Membrey kicked three in the last and that Sharman kicked the last goal of the game because if they hadn't we are looking at a close to a hundred point loss.
It's how we respond that counts.

Re: Wah wah wah
I wouldn't say that Thursday's game was among the worst I've seen from a result view point...It was the effort and non-response. We didn't respond well enough in the 2nd quarter...We kicked unanswered goals once in the first three quarters. But, once again, fell asleep in red time to conceded two in a minute before half time.
The non-response after half time was the killer. That was what did it for me.
I don't buy the five day-break...We dominated the Pies off the same break.
We have not been present for the first half in most games this season and especially the last month.
Richmond, GWS, and now the Dogs.
Given that we've come off a finals appearance, the expectations against a side we are genuinely competing with for a spot in the eight were that we'd be very competitive. It was the total lack of effort that hurts.
As for the "response" in the last quarter, I'd put that down to the Dogs taking the foot off the accelerator looking to Perth trip to play the Dockers. The three goals should not take the heat off Membrey, who was ordinary again last night for 3/4 of the game.
Comparing the 70's to now is the most redundant comparison you could make. Different time, different level of professionalism.
I am getting too old to put up with staying to the end of a game that is lost. If the players turn up to play when it matters, I will stay to the end. But we all know how often that happens.
