We took it to GWS, we took it to Collingwood and beat them, we came close to Geelong. With the same level of injuries.
Todays' performance wasn't injuries. It was much more than that.
"Emotion doesn't get it done". Maybe so, but it can certainly lose you the game if you don't turn up.
Another significant factor was 3 games, including 2 interstate (4 flights), in 11 days. We we're completely off, with lead in our legs.
The performance was very much about the above two issues

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Its not about the length of the flight, its about what high altitude does. Have you ever flown regularly? You may not consider such impact significant, however to an elite, finely tuned athlete, it makes a big difference.The_Dud wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 12:36pmThey flew to Adelaide and Canberra, not bloody Europe! The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 11:45amIt wasn't only, but very much about injuries. It was glaringly obvious we were way off and heavy in the legs. Our mental game was a second behind the Bulldogs. A chasm at that level.

Many teams fly every second week, and they've won a number of premierships doing it.The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 1:07pmIts not about the length of the flight, its about what high altitude does. So no, I don't think sitting on a plane for an hour last Saturday is the reason we got done by 10 goals Thursday night.

True. Did they have the same injury list on GF day as we have now?The_Dud wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 2:30pmMany teams fly every second week, and they've won a number of premierships doing it.The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 1:07pmIts not about the length of the flight, its about what high altitude does. Every second week is 2 flights in 13/14 days. We had 4 flights in 7 days with short turnarounds between 2 successive matches. Then we play on the fastest and hardest track in the league.The_Dud wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 2:30pmMany teams fly every second week, and they've won a number of premierships doing it.The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 1:07pmIts not about the length of the flight, its about what high altitude does. The flights, combined with the short turn arounds was a huge factor. Every single player was off, to varying degrees, even Cal Wilkie, Marshall and Nasiah! Completely off the boil, mentally not there and physically sluggish.
As bad as the performance was, it was an anomaly. You only need to be 1 or 2% off and anyone can roll you, we were way over 10% off!
Sydney got a touch up from Richmond recently and about this time last year GWS got rolled by West Coast. There is no crisis or any need to panic.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Perth has always been a 4+ hour flight from Melbourne, and West Coast have managed to be pretty successful flying in a day or two before a game. The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 3:59pmEvery second week is 2 flights in 13/14 days. The Dogs last 3-4 weeks have been just as tight as ours regarding breaks.
We've been horrible the last 4 weeks, last night was not a sudden thing.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
I didn't say it had anything to do with length of the flight, I said it was about being at high altitude. Have you ever actually regularly flown interstate?The_Dud wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 4:20pmPerth has always been a 4+ hour flight from Melbourne, and West Coast have managed to be pretty successful flying in a day or two before a game. The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 3:59pmEvery second week is 2 flights in 13/14 days. The Dogs hadn't had 2 successive interstate trips and had an extra day to recover. Your assertion that we have been "horrible" for 4 weeks, is a gross exaggeration designed to shoe horn your argument.
Why do you think every single one of our players (with the exception of Garcia & Wilson) was completely off the boil? How often has a Ross Lyon coached side conceded over 100 points before 3 quarter time or 7 goals in a quarter? It's a rarity if its ever happened before.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Combine a host of injuries with very short turnarounds and it makes it harder. I can't believe anyone could think otherwise

Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and GWS all had byes during that period, too. Swans and Collingwood had byes last week and will come in fresh this week.
Not all games are equal. Not all situations are equal.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Interestingly, all the teams who had a bye in the first 6 weeks have played either West Coast, North Melbourne, or Hawthorn in that period, too. GWS got lucky with getting two of those teams
Geelong have played two of those teams in 5 rounds.
It just shows that a combination of the draw and injuries does make a difference.
