Injuries have derailed our season
Our injury are really starting to hurt. Role players and promising kids can play important games and often a few in a row at best. The issue is you can only carry a small amount at any one time over an extended period. Tonight we had far too many blokes that together in one team can’t compete for sustained periods at senior level.
Byrnes has had far too many chances. Hammer isn’t in the same class as King.
Henry was a huge point of difference his position is filled be 2nd game late pick 18 year old.
Howard our best tall defender is due back shortly and will help. Webster and Paton our options as lock down backs missing.
Crouch Clark Dow Wood provide options for mid depth while we have Sharman Byrnes and even Poh trying to fill the role.
We need an injection of players to at least offer selection scrutiny the old play anyone is what a novice would suggest.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Another cop out.
We took it to GWS, we took it to Collingwood and beat them, we came close to Geelong. With the same level of injuries.
Todays' performance wasn't injuries. It was much more than that.
"Emotion doesn't get it done". Maybe so, but it can certainly lose you the game if you don't turn up.

As I said these players can perform for short periods maybe a small block of games.
Henry was one of our best v Collingwood as was King.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
It's exposing our depth to AFL level footy. Which for such a young side is a good thing.
Would Garcia be playing if Crouch and Dow were available?

Injuries are the reason AFL footballers can’t kick a set shot from 15m out

But it was back to normal tonight .
Injuries are hurting
Buttler doing his hammie is just about done for the year .
Jones looks done as well

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
The Bulldogs exposed our lack of height in defence and our midfield depth. Phillipou isn't talented enough to play in the middle.Otiman wrote: ↑Thu 18 Apr 2024 11:45pm Another cop out.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Lack of basic skill resulting in turnovers in the first quarter resulted in the run on and lead.
We were never going to get that back.
Let’s face it half that team wouldn’t have played had we had a full list to select from ,we have some depth but not that much.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Exactly, said it when the team sheet was announced how frustrating the coaches must be not having a healthy list to choose from.
Probably up to at least 8 players who aren’t AFL standard getting a game

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
There is a difference between being young and not up to the standard. Byrnes is not up to it and won't be.

The weather wasn’t quite to our liking, injuries, coaches woke up with a stiff neck, booing put the players off.
What excuses are next?

Umpires
Schedule
MRP
AFL head office
Weather
Ground size
St Kilda tax
And on and on the excuses go.
Somehow for them its never the coaching and playing group tho

When is Webster due back?
If he got 6 weeks, then he's available next week.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
It wasn't only, but very much about injuries. Significant injury list of best 22 players (including a few midfielders) and I don't believe Sinclair is yet 100%Otiman wrote: ↑Thu 18 Apr 2024 11:45pm Another cop out.

Another significant factor was 3 games, including 2 interstate (4 flights), in 11 days. We we're completely off, with lead in our legs.
The performance was very much about the above two issues

Every Team has injuries
JUH and Libba missing last night
They would have been running first and second in their B&F
