Re: Next week
A coach with vision for the future doesn't recruit rejects like Cordy and Bonner and give them important roles in the team.
Their talent level is average and their upside is minimal.

Re: Next week
Let's be honest...the talent across the whole team is very average and has been massively overrated on the back of the Messiahs return.

Besides a 5 game stretch at the start of last season
10w 15l
Where we surprised the opposition - and we then limped into finals - winning 8 of the next 19
We have been s***

If he were a racehorse, he be straight to the paddock. Three Group races in 12 days, will slaughter and promising young colt.

Re: Next week
What is it with fans?
What else could Membrey do when he's asked to fill spaces in the backline most of the time.
Same thing with Higgins and Owens and Sharman.
We just need our midfield to lift. We need to work on our game. Our forwards are competent imo.

Re: Next week
I’m pretty sure Bonner is playing because Webster isn’t. Cordy played last year as forward because we had no others for the first part of the year.
The only other time he’s played when Howard could’ve is the final last year. And last night (even tho Howard hasn’t played a single game at Sandy).
I get the criticism but you're off the mark here - if anything you could say he’s played/playing too many kids.
Better get used last night - we’ll have a couple more of those in 2024
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Next week
Howard played last weekend for Sandy at Manuka in the curtain raiser, picked up 18 disposals and 9 marks.
FWIW I think Cordy has been generally pretty solid this year in Howard's absence. It's good to have someone as backup here, I worry what would happen for our team structure if Wilkie or Marshall went down with injury.

Re: Next week
I agree with Saintmatt. The reason Bonner and Cordy are playing (as per previous poster) is because of injuries to 6-7 of our regular first 22.
I think they've done well and performed as best as they could and to a pretty high personal standard. They're not stars, but they've played their roles.
We can learn from this for next year. I hope match committee were paying attention and I hope Ross is strong enough to manage players instead of playing them every single bloody game.
Look at Brad Couch. The guy wasn't rested at all last year. It takes its toll. There's consequences for pushing players. They're not machines
The benefit of having Bonner and Cordy in the squad is that they could be used when the fixture demands that St Kilda plays 3 games in 12 days next year.
Let's use this year as a true year of experimentation. Who gives a damn trying to finish 9th or 10th.
The other blokes that need a break are Marshall, Steele, Byrnes, Pou, Wilson and Sebby among others. We have guys in the VFL like Keeler, Moose, Collard, Hastie, and others that we can throw in the mix.
With Dow, Clark, and Henry coming in AND with Stocker, Battle and Owens able to spend time in the midfield, we can manage more players.

Re: Next week
You'll find that Cordy was recruited just before RTB's arrival. That decision was made by the Ratten regime.

Correction. It was the Toce, Gallagher, Ratten and Lethlean regimeKick-it-lace-out wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 3:43pmYou'll find that Cordy was recruited just before RTB's arrival. That decision was made by the Ratten regime.
Re: Next week
And Cordy was recruited as back up - because after Howard, Wilkie and Battle who did we have as a KPP defender?
So Cordy replaced Frawley
Both Cordy and Frawley played at AFL level because we have had injuries - and the kids of KPP size are still developing (when not injured)
For some height in defence we have deployed Sharman, 193cm and 80kgs and with a leap
Compare those stats to May, the same height but over 100kgs so able to command space

Re: Next week
Membrey kicked 3 goals, he's not going to be dropped.
King will come in for either Caminiti or Sharman.
Howard sill come in, but Cordy would be stiff to be dropped because he's actually been serviceable to good so far.
Butler will need to be replaced so maybe Collard.
I agree that Pou needs a spell, but we don't have much to bring back in.
Dow, if fit, could be the sub.

Re: Next week
The fact of the matter is recruiting Frawley, Cordy and now Bonner are all dumb decisions. Their upside is minimal. Look for a Wilkie type again with potential or someone with some X-factor. Collingwood found a few and have another flag in the bag. Melbourne the same and finally got another flag. The Western Bulldogs list is on the up again after breaking their flag drought in 2016 and Carlton are on their way up again too. We have gone nowhere with our player list management since 2010 and no closer to a flag after 14 years.

Re: Next week
Not good enough at all still after 14 years. Essendon got decimated after the drugs scandal and watching them the last few weeks shows how much ground they have made up too with their playing personnel.

Cordy is depth - we didn't realise it at the time but it's clear now.saintkid wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2024 10:59pm The fact of the matter is recruiting Frawley, Cordy and now Bonner are all dumb decisions. Bonner is to release Sinclair to the midfield.
Frawley was a jobs for mates mistake.
We paid nothing in draft picks for any of them.
