All great points sRr. One worth dwelling on is:

Can Shoenmaker become a genuine CHB and take the 2nd tall forward? I think not in his first 20-30 games at AFL level but that should be the goal.

Height is overrated from key defenders. We trust Wilkie at 191cm to take on some pretty big forwards.

It's actually quite difficult to find player heights these days, but looking at the best tall defenders in the comp right now (If I've missed any let me know). Arie is actually in the 'sweet spot' here.

Callum Wilkie 191
Mitch McGovern 191
Tom McCartin 193
Steven May 193
Jake Lever 195
Lewis Melican 195
Charlie Ballard 195
Sam Taylor 196
Jacob Weitering 196
Harris Andrews 201

Yes I agree that he is already tall enough to play key position, and I can certainly seem him becoming one for us. By "beefed" up I meant in strength and body mass. To play as true key defender it is very helpful if one can hold one's ground and nudge out key forwards. May as an example.

Wilkie is of course a modern exception to the rule.

The great Trevor Barker a freak exception to the rule at only 183cm and of slight frame. Bob Murray and Barry Lawrence were also not bad for "shorties" ;)

Dustin Fletcher was a bean pole and one of the best defenders I have seen

Certainly has the leg strength right now. Can he build a core and upper body in a year? We will see.

Guy might also have a level of hardness/mongrel spirit that we sorely lack. And have for some time.
Stewart has it and is rarely sanctioned, like May, Sicily has it but umps are gunning for him. Btw I admire Caminiti's uncompromising style too. Good lad.

Battle is that guy for us down back, but I'd take another one.

Caminiti won't be taking too much s*** in years to come when he learns a bit more and grows further into his body. He has already been smacked for riding roughshod on Cicily and Murphy.
