Caleb Daniel, anyone?
Dropped by the Dogs this week.
Seeing our recruiting geniuses talked him up bigtime pre-draft only to inexplicably select Lonie instead, maybe we can belatedy get him to the Saints?

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
Should be focussing our trade attention on B+ or A grade midfielders only.

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
For what role
He is an average small forward
Good HB but we already have 2
Too small as a mid

Wasn’t Caleb gone before Lonie?

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
The club put out a video pre-draft where they seriously discussed Daniels. They said something along the lines of he's overcome every challenge. He was acknowledged as a great user of the footy.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Fri 12 Apr 2024 7:33pm

Turned out to be a significantly better player than Lonie...Just the sort of ball user we could have used in those years.

I wanted Caleb so badly at the time
Do you know how to tell we were #u@$?ed as a club at the time?
I, a non-football playing amateur with no experience in the industry… with the aid of the big footy and other AFL mock draft write ups, absolutely took our club to task on 3-4 or so drafts over that era at least as far as the first 2 picks went.

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
We would’ve pigeon holed Daniel as a small forward
He’d have had fa impact, and been inconsistent
Supporters would have bagged the fk out of him for being too small (6 cm shorter than Lonie)
The only definite- we would not have had the foresight to play him at HB where he was an AA

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
That meeting was Cringe
Elshaug convinced Richo that McCartin should be pick 1
Richo was challenging him on his diabetes and weight. Elshaug was hilarious stating the the diabetes was a positive thing because he had to manage it. AR stressed we had to get that pick right
On Daniel - Richo questioned his lack of size as a factor in the AFL? Elshaug seemed to rate Daniel.
We obviously saw someone that small being a small forward
And Lonie had the runs on the board in that position
Being Bic Country MVP and U18 AA in that position
Plus he was a local
As a pick 41 87 games and 80 goals is an ok return
Daniel was a great choice by the Dogs at 46 what even better is how he was developed and how they used him
Which went with a number of great selections at that time
Libba, Bont, McCrae, Johannison etc which ended up in a premiership

Re: Caleb Daniel, anyone?
Our midfield should be led by Petracca and Bontempelli but instead we employed clowns in recruiting.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 13 Apr 2024 2:13pm That meeting was Cringe

By the end of this season Bevo will have sent every Doggy player into therapy. Perhaps hang off recruiting any until they recover equilibrium.
