Membrey's form
Did anyone else notice how many marks Members dropped and balls he fumbled against the Tigers. Unusual for him lets hope its not a trend.
The other significant thing was how much leeway the Tigers defenders were given with pushing our forwards under the ball. A large number should have been in the back frees.

Re: Membrey's form
Skunk is now one of those guys who has lost too much skill and touch.
Up until the covid era, he could be relied on to have very good games at the rate of 5-6 decent games per 10 games.
His clean touch and skill are gone for good

Re: Membrey's form
No sure why he would have lost his ability at 29yo
I very much doubt he has
He’s had 2 good games
1 poor game
1 serviceable game
His numbers are pretty much in line with career numbers

I'm banking he'll have a huge couple of weeks coming up and people writing him off will be very embarrassed

Re: Membrey's form
He is and always has been a solid to good AFL player
Similar level to Seb Ross albeit a different typer of player
Underrated like Seb too
Will go down in history as a good stk player
Has won 3 or 4 leading goalkicker awards at stk

Re: Membrey's form
I don't disagree BM, I still think he is a good player and at his best will be very good. I don't actually think he has lost any skill or capability.
However, it's more of a symptom of where we have been in the past and the caliber of player we have.
Same as Josh Bruce. Looked good with us and average with the Bulldogs.

Re: Membrey's form
I'll add to my comments by saying his value in dropping back to take saving marks, which he could be relied upon to do when needed, is still there, but he is being negated by being a bit shorter than most oppo mids who are at least 6-10 cm taller.
I still have him as best 23, but eventually he'll be 'managed' occasionally for team balance, when Windy, Owens and Pou become more dominant and when Caminiti learns consistency.
Just my opinion.

Re: Membrey's form
With King, Caminiti, Membrey and Sharman we are too tall and slow in the forwardline. The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:32pm Ask yourself,do you want him in the side or not

Sharman should overtake Membrey during the course of the year but he is not there yet.
Don't discount Membrey's leadership up forward. I just wish King was a more natural leader.

Re: Membrey's form
I don't think Lyon rates Sharman as a forward, he rarely performs well in the forward line and is being played anywhere but the Forward line and doesn't seem to have a chemistry with King which is what Lyon will be probing for as whoever becomes the second tall will have to be second fiddle to King. Cammers is well off the pace too but at least seems to have more tricks than Sharman so I can see Lyon persisting with Caminiti over Sharman up forward. However I think once Hayes is ready he will be trialled as he offers something over both those with regards to being capable of ruck work and a stronger mobile body.Otiman wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:53pmWith King, Caminiti, Membrey and Sharman we are too tall and slow in the forwardline. The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:32pm Ask yourself,do you want him in the side or not

Re: Membrey's form
Hard to know what's going through Ross's head.
What I do know is the fact that Sharman can play forward, back, and wing means he's much more likely to be picked than Membrey.

In the words of Cinderella (The Band) - Don't know what you got til its gone!
Membrey does the grunt work, which makes King a better player.
He must have a good defender on him and up until recently has been a reliable kick.
You just need to speak to opposition fans to get the importance:
Carlton fans call him 3 goal Tim, Richmond fans every game I am at - not Membrey again and many others the same.
Membrey is the 4 wheel drive of out forward line , King is the BMW, Higgins and Butler the Torana SLR5000, and Sharman and Caminiti Holden Cruz look flashy but unreliable.

Re: Membrey's form
Much prefer Membrey to Caminiti. Membrey is a better mark, kick and ground player.

Re: Membrey's form
At the moment our 'tall' forward rankings would be:
King
Membrey
Sharman
Caminiti
Hayes will slot in there somewhere, its hard to tell how good he really is as he's only played like 5 games. But I'm guessing he'll take over the role Caminiti was playing last weekend and do a better job.

Re: Membrey's form
I'm a big Sharman fan, but he has been on the backline more than the forward line. In my book he doesn't play well there. I don't know what's going on with King. He just look awkward and clumsy. Tim gets moved around a bit, so I don't see height on the forward line as an issue. I'm more concerned about out backline. Wilkie is off this year, not playing to his usual standard. Where as Battle has been fantastic.Otiman wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:53pmWith King, Caminiti, Membrey and Sharman we are too tall and slow in the forwardline. The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 11 Apr 2024 8:32pm Ask yourself,do you want him in the side or not
