Acc: Accuracy = (Goals / shots at goal)

2024 - 15th - 41.6% acc (league avg 49.3%)
2023 - 10th - 47.8% acc (league avg 48.0%)
2022 - 10th - 48.1% acc (league avg 48.8%)
2021 - 10th - 46.9% acc (league avg 47.4%)
2020 - 2nd - 49.9% acc (league avg 46.8%)
2019 - 18th - 42.6% acc (league avg 46.5%)

So out of 12 full seasons we've finished better than average in just 1/4.

And unsurprisingly in 2020 at our most accurate we go weeks into finals.

Collingwood 2023 - 1st accuracy
Geelong 2022 - 5th
Melbourne 2021 - 14th
Richmond 2020 - 7th
Richmond 2019 - 3rd
West Coast 2018 - 4th
Richmond 2017 - 15th
Bulldogs 2016 - 16th
Hawthorn 2015 - 1st
Hawthorn 2014 - 1st
Hawthorn 2013 - 1st
Sydney 2012 - 2nd

Probably the world's most obvious correlation... bad kicking = bad football. Good kicking = a pretty good headstart towards a premiership.
Thanks for the research Schroder to prove I'm wrong in the context of the last 12 seasons, though I doubt that the high rate of inaccuracy in front of goals would have made all that much difference as apart from 2020 & 2023 St Kilda was never in real contention to play finals.

Your stats emphatically reveal that if St Kilda are going to contend during Lyon's current tenancy in charge of the team he is going to have to bring much greater focus on ways to have players increase their conversion rates.

Scoring inaccuracy may be a proxy for lack of composure?
I am not sure composure can be coached into a player?
Maybe create an environment of excellence, recruit composed, footy smart players and it follows.
Some/most of our new recruits seem outstanding in that respect.
I worry about Riley Bonner's composure. Hope its just new boy nerves.

Riley isn't the guy who needs to finish and kick the goals. I watched the replay of the second half against Essendon yesterday. I don't think he was that bad after all.

I'm worried about Owens, Marshall, Snags and Membrey. I'm also worried that Membrey can't hold a mark. Hope he's focused on the job on Sunday

Good to see we learnt from last week's horrendous conversion of 9.13 by kicking 9.13 this week.

And don't forget the 9.14 kicked in Round 1.

Can't win Grand Finals kicking 9.14. Actually, what'd we kick in 2009? That's right, 9.14.

Well 9.13 got it done.
Windy conditions and great pressure from both sides, plenty of bruises. Richmond were/are in form and its stars firing.
Its a credit to our side the way they turned it around after half time.
That Max King "snap" in the third quarter should be in the Sporting Hall of Fame. Better than Blight's torp. Won the game as it turned out.

AND
What about Rowan's set shot goal at the Parade end. He never gets set shots. What a guy in a crisis. Allowed for the 50knt sideways Gale, aimed for right point post, as he often does, came back perfectly. 2nd best Goal of the Round.

Max King still continues to twirl and rotate the ball in his hands before taking a set shot.

Surely this is affecting his accuracy. He misses so many of these gettable shots.
