Re: Cooked
After we let Ryder go, the club's coaches (and they've changed obv in the meantime) didn't care (seemingly) about our glaring ruck situation.
They seemed to think Roma can do it and get a half-cocked chopout from anybody over 190 cms...
That's NOT good enough, for me.
Salary cap is a delicate balancing act.
They wanted Bonner, Henry, etc so decided to ignore any 2nd ruck.
Hoping that Windy and maybe Owens+Pou could rove to opp ruckmen.
Crouch, Ross, Steele in our midfield aren't Lachy Neale or Patrick Cripps, too slow.
Are they playing the long game and expecting our developing young guys will give that bite in the clearances, so we don't need another ruckman

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

To be fair they’ve gone after rucks - not landed themWellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 02 Apr 2024 1:57am After we let Ryder go, the club's coaches (and they've changed obv in the meantime) didn't care (seemingly) about our glaring ruck situation.

Xerri
De Koning
Draper
Bombers offered Goldstein extra years/coaching opportunities
It’s not like we’ve not tried
Heath may not make it …I’d hit State League mid season if possible

Re: Cooked
Inevitable is right. Set your watches by it.
The cruelty is the occasional effort like against the Pies.
Even the most ardent pollyanna and Black Knight might recognise what that loss means.
Membrey is easily nullified if the opponent concentrates.
Forwards were such in name only.
We are compromised in rucking contests.
Even if good coaching moves are identified they are dismissed.
Most of the players have not been coached to react well under finals like pressure and we probably don't have the team resilience to not go into panic mode. (Why did Pies win so many close games last year and we have already lost 2).
Pound for pound we should have beaten Essendon but never looked like it after Sincs butchered that early chance. We didn't play to our strengths, let Scott and Essendon dictate the course of the game. You and I knew the oppo match winner was Stringer and we let it happen.
We keep being reminded it is a brutal comp but we don't play that way or smart.
Sure we will improve over the season as better players dribble back in and gradually get match fitness. But blowing 4 points like that transports us back to the time of Richo.
But just shrug and know, well that's silly old Saints. Don't want to hurt Riley's feelings by suggesting kicking to opponent rucks as often as possible might not be in teams best interests. Surely one of the "leaders" should have gone to him after he did it twice and appeared stunned and said mate have a break, we have proved that doesn't work let's try something else. No, group think, not my job, just get rid of the ball, make it someone else's problem. The essence of a good team.

Re: Cooked
Lyon sees this team as a work in progress, and rightly so. He inherited a team that was way down the pecking order in relation to contention with a worrying lack of emerging talent. The sins of the past (recruitment) had left him with a lopsided list and the focus has shifted to bringing in young talent, which is what we've been crying out for over the past 5 years.
Because of that shift in list strategy, it means we have a number of players who are at the development stage (Owens, Windhager, NWM, Hastie, Wilson, etc that we have certain expectations that won't be met every week
It's a delicate balancing act , so when a host of injuries to senior players hit, we are left exposed.
No need to panic about the medium term because we've put the right things in place regarding recruitment, but in the very short term, injuries are going to challenge us

Kick straight and win our effing games.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Mon 01 Apr 2024 2:08pm I suppose do we (Club/coaches) have a plan. Previous plan was change coaches.
What's the current one.
Blood youngsters, win games, balance between them?
Are some established players beyond dropping Or is it merit based.
What is our realistic aspiration for this year.
