Re: Cooked
Neither of our two big deficiencies have looked like being addressed from last season- not kicking big enough scores, and a weak midfield..the midfield having largely been responsible for our two losses. Doesn't mater what you lose by, we lost two out of three games, and need to pick up the pace a lot.

Will likely be 2-6 or 3-5 at best looking at fixture.
Injuries galore, player stupidity in getting suspended.
Do they ever get anything right at St Kilda?
Don’t have a half bad side (short of gun midfielders as per usual), but the slightest bit of expectation and they poop the bed yesterday.
Still pissed off.
But don't forget we are still in a rebuild phase with recent draftees thrown into the mix and the rumour that we have been building list dollars to pay the big bucks for star key position players (article last week).
However, I'm hoping RTB isn't gambling too much with possible losses on winnable games in the mean time, otherwise attendances and memberships will suffer.

Re: Cooked
I suppose do we (Club/coaches) have a plan. Previous plan was change coaches.
What's the current one.
Blood youngsters, win games, balance between them?
Are some established players beyond dropping Or is it merit based.
What is our realistic aspiration for this year.

It’s a cop out.
As a previous comment mentioned, have we even looked at our deficiencies? Still no backup Ruck (farcical that Owens is going to get banged up for no good reason), still no midfield after so many years (hbf’s don’t count). Dysfunctional forward line that cannot consistently kick a winning score without relying on keeping opposition to under 10 goals.

Re: Cooked
Losing Webster and Howard in the last practice match as well as the other injuries has cost us.
I think we do have the makings of a very very good midfield. Dow and Henry will complement Steele, Sebby, Clark, Windy and Owens.
Just need them all fit and available. Wood is going to be difficult to cover until he returns.
As far as the forward line and backline, I also think that the current list can get the job done. I just think we need some luck with consistency of personnel

We don’t have journeymen on our List, players we are able to fall back on
We only have Cordy and Campbell
And that is where the extent of the unavailabile list hurts
We are missing the experience of Crouch, Wood and Howard and even Webster - and the skills of the recruited Henry, of Clark then King
Leaving Butler aside
We are getting a look at Wilson and Hardie - and will get a look at others as we may need now to cover Windhager (another kid)
And they look ok

Re: Cooked
Show me?
Need as a minimum 12 wins from 21.
West Coast x2, North so another 9 from 18. 50% with no margin for error.
Starting back in the pack, already gifted two rivals wins in 8 point games, injuries are unrelenting, regular suspensions, have to give promising draftees games, Sinclair no where near his AA form, same same mid field problems and Bonner.
Very good coaches that know exactly why we lost but can't tailor bespoke tactics for specific opponents, too introspective?
Anyway, can't see it now. Effort Saturday was two steps back.

Essendon aren’t exactly West Coast or Norf.
It’s going to be a very even season.

Re: Cooked
Halfway to the first 6 games of the season and based on the first 3 games I don't share your optimism, a very young and inexperienced side and even when we get some players back we will still be very young and inexperienced.
And with 3 really tough games coming up we could be 1 win after 6 rounds.

Re: Cooked
Richmond have had a good win.
I think their senior players have answered their critics. They've earnt the right to spend quality time polishing their medals during the week and a fair bit of time in the mirror
They will also defy the coach and secretly stare at a lot of photos of themselves from 2019/2020

Re: Cooked
In regards our midfield and a comparison to 2023, we went out and recruited 2 players, one from Fremantle and the other from Carlton
Past that we are going the youth track - so playing talented kids in there
The 2 players we recruited are out injured
Plus Crouch is out injured
As is Clark
The positive is that Steele has returned to fitness and form
The next question is Sinclair and how we deploy him
And the kids delivering consistently

Re: Cooked
Not cooked yet
Need to beat Richmond this week to stay alive because will definitely lose the following week.
Will hopefully start to get some soldiers back the week after.
Tough game at Norwood oval - it’s a postage stamp and won’t suit our game at all.

Re: Cooked
Too right. It's our "Voldemort". The word that cannot be mentioned. Quite a few on here seemed to have accepted that we were "Voldemort", at least to some extent.
Our loss to the dopers is definitely an example of one that got away. Performances like this occur occasionally for teams that are in Voldemort mode. I thought SS would, in general, be more tolerant of these inevitable lapses.
